sports.
I get sick everytime I hear an analyst or anyone for that matter say he is the best player in the game? Why, cause of the 3 rings he won piggybacking Shaq? If you put Vince Carter or Allen Iverson in that same position, they would have 3 rings as well... would we then consider one or the other the best player in the game?
Why is there even an MJ COMPARISON? MJ was the cornerstone of 6 championships, won multiple scoring titles and league MVP awards... Kobe Bryant was just Shaq's Scottie Pippen.
At no point in his career has Kobe Bryant been the best player in the NBA. When he first came into the league, Michael Jordan was around and the best player in the NBA. After that, he wasn't even the best player on his own team (Shaq). After Shaq declined and Kobe was putting up nice stats on mediocre Laker teams, Tim Duncan was in his prime and won 3 championships as the cornerstone of the Spurs franchise.
But now there has been some declines in Tim's game, so is Kobe the best player in the league right now?
No, it is King James' time... it is just a matter of time before King James wins multiple titles as "the guy" rather than "the 2nd fiddle" which Kobe was with the Lakers.
It's just a matter of time. It may come this year, next, or later down the line... but it IS coming (The King James Dynasty).
Even though D-Whistles '06 championship is illegitimate and tarnished by the refs, he is the best shooting guard in the game right now. So not only is Kobe not the best player in the game, he's not even the best at his position.
What's the excuse gonna be when Kobe fails to win a title this year despite a huge frontline and a deep bench? That will be all the proof in the world that Kobe Bryant is not the best player in the game, nor has he ever been the best player in the game.
Another note, for his career Kobe shoots 41% in the Finals. He has been especially unspectacular against the Pistons and the Celtics in his last 2 visits. Before that, Shaq was putting up what, 29/15 in the Finals? Anyone can win a title playing alongside such a dominant low post presence.
Good players will be remembered by what they do in the regular season, great players will be remembered by what they do in the playoffs, and legends will be remembered by what they do in teh Finals. Kobe's done jack shite in the Finals.

Remember when he drilled that game winning 3 from the lot in the Detroit series?
But the most overhyped player is easily Brett Favre, it's not even close really.

i actually agree with most of that. and as for this:
his performance in those series are two of the all time worst performances in finals history from a PER standpoint

Nobody has ever said Dirk Nowitzki is the best player in the game.

Don't know about the most in sports history, but I agree, GHAZI, he's certainly overhyped.

But I do agree about the over-hyping and crowning of Kobe as the best player ever since MJ. Reminds me of the "Hitler lie"...when you (sports media) say things long enough people (mass of sports fans) start believing them.

he is plenty deserving of the hype he gets
sure Shaq led those teams, but Kobe is still a HOF and one of the top 15 players ever

I agree with some
The MJ comparison comes from the similarities of their games. I think had Kobe played in Jordans time period he could have been as sucessful. Jordan shot a better percentage and played much better D. However Jordan was so much bigger than Kobe even though they are at relatively same heights. Jordan was more of a "Lebronized" version of Kobe. Jordan had better hops and better strength at going to the basket. Both are equal in their array of moves that they can do. Jordan just had a few more attributes such as extremely big hands. Kobe hands are relatively small so Jordan could do stuff more at the rim
I will say had Lebron and Kobe played in the "exact" same time period they would have been right up there with him as far as stats and numbers go. I do feel Kobe and Jordan are equally clutch and both can will their teams to win at the ends of games. I still feel Lebron does disappear from time to time at that.
Nobody will have the streak of scoring titles that Jordan did. Nobody in the league was on his level. Where as now you have a Wade,a Lebron, a Kobe. All guys that can put up points.
I think if you put Kobe in MJ's position on those Bulls teams they probably win some titles as well.
The game has advanced so far today, mostly due to Jordan, as far as a perimeter dominated game.
We'll just have to see. From watching their games and not looking at stats (sometimes they are overrated - HOLLINGER) I still feel Kobe is ahead of Lebron and Wade.
You are correct Kobe has done jack shite in the Finals. Its his time and he has to prove he can do it. He did step up huge in the Finals against Indiana in 00.
As far as Wade dominating the Finals. His competition was pretty overrated. He was playing against a pathetic Mavs defense that lets the guy go to the hole everytime. A player in Dirk Nowitzki who couldn't make a clutch basket or a clutch defensive play. The MAVS got a huge favor from the refs to even get in the Finals against San Antonio in Game 7. Now I will agree that Wade gets some calls but the Mavs completely disappeard in that Finals. You guys lost against and old and moldy Heat team with one guy really. That series should have been 4-1 Dallas but you guys just played weak.
Kobe still has to prove some stuff. But he's pretty much been the best player in the game even though he's not always putting up big numbers. Kobe will never average 7 assists in the triangle. Nobody has, under Phil Jackson, averaged 7 assists. The highest assist Jordan averaged in a season with the Triangle was 6.1. So Kobes assist numbers will probably never be as high as guys like Wade or Lebron. Plus they dominate the ball. Kobe usually get the ball off a series of cuts in the offense.
Kobe will never be MJ. But he's the closest and probably the last that has a mirror image game and the array of moves Jordan had. If you have Lebron hands, physical strength (to a degree) and hops; Kobes understanding of the game and array of shotmaking abiblity; and Wades dashing and darting through the lane to the goal and you added them all together you would get a Michael Jordan.
Just what I think
Kobe still has stuff to prove. I still think he'll be one of the 5 greatest and definitely a top 10 great

GHAZI just wants attention again that is why he always starts a thread.
Tim Duncan, if I remember correctly it was more the play of Parker that led the Spurs over the CAVS. In your eyes he must have just been piggybacking on Duncan though.
The Shaq and Kobe comparison is old. You are comparing a big center who many does dunks and layups, to a guard that hits outside shots. Yes Shaq was dominant because of his size, but if you are down by two with a few seconds remaining who is going to get the ball? Not the big guy who misses free throws. I just think it is lame to compare Shaq and Kobe they play two completely different styles of ball. Yes Shaq is a huge reason why the Lakers won three titles. However, Shaq could not win one without a big shooter. We all know Wade won the finals so easily for the Heat against the MAVS. You saw that series right?
You talk about Kobe being absent in the Finals, do your remember how that Lakers team got in the Finals? He became more of a team player and passed the ball off a lot. So now you bring up his stats not being dominant? Why would they change what got them there?
I just find it funny how you can try and talk down a player like Kobe but you talk up Dirk who does not even compare to Kobe's talent.
