I used to play bass years ago in garage bands and such and have recently picked it back up as a mid life crisis in hopes to put a classic rock band together for fun.
What I am playing is my fathers old bass, a hollow body Hofner (Beatles bass)
While I do love it's distinct and mellow sound, I would like to have another bass to play mostly classic rock as well.
I have been going to Guitar Center lately and trying out different basses and one that really jumped out at me was the Yamaha BB234.
What an awesome sounding a comfortable bass.
Anyone have this bass and if so your thoughts or recommend another in the same price range.
Thanks

For a hobbyist dinking around at home, that Yamaha is perfectly fine. Especially since you’ve played and know you like the feeling.

However, your Hofner is probably a shorter scale, and there was a big resurgence of short scale basses a few years back. Of, those I highly recommend the Fender Mustang - I gigged with 2 MIJ Mustangs, put them through hell, and they never let me down. Probably saved my back, too.

Yamaha has always been a solid brand. Sounds like you found something you like. Trust your gut and grab that one.

I will say, in a somewhat similar price range, the Classic Vibe P is a really solid bass to consider.

Thanks for all the opinions from all.
I don’t think I looked at the precision vibe there our I didn’t see it.
I’m going to go check that one out before I make a decision
That’s why I came here because I only have one shot at this lol.

If you like it, that's the one! Bring your amp to the store and see if you still like it.

Just got home with a Squier Classic Vibe. I went with the intent of purchasing a Fender Precision Player but the Squier played just as good and had a better tone distinction. And was $400 cheaper.

Dammit Pete!
Like Tex below, I too went and played the Vibe as well and it felt and played very well,
For shits and giggles, I also played the fender Jazz and the neck is a bit more slender and easier to play but damn it's big a lot!
Can't really justify the cost at the moment but glad I didn't impulse buy the Yamaha until I look around and make sure I get what I really want.

I’m telling ya, put a Fender 63 Vintage P pickup in that Classic Vibe and you got a stealth killer bass.
