Heard it kind of goes off the rails after season 3 but most shows do.

Wife and I enjoyed it when it originally aired. Been a while, so not sure how it ages. I’d say give it a shot and see what you think.

I liked it a lot. I don’t recall the last seasons being bad or anything. I say check it out!

Yes.

As far as "rails", it is a rollercoaster ride, and I feel that was at least partially on purpose.

The show is reasonably experimental with the ghost/spirituality parts, but nails the concept of "flawed" heroes and all that goes with that. The acting is very good and the writing works for the universe they created. That era produced a ton of good shows. While I don't think Rescue Me is a legit GOAT contender, it is right in that next tier of really, really outstanding dramas of the new Golden Age.

I enjoyed it and would recommend a binge.

The episode with the sensitivity training is classic.

Rescue Me

There are some really terrible firefighting shows and movies. Rescue Me gets a lot of the station life right. It's what I liked most about the show. I got into the fire service on Long Island in July 2001, and know tons of FDNY instructors, officers, and firefighters. Walk into just about any firehouse and you'd think we all truly disrespected each other

Oddly enough, while Tacoma FD is not a serious show, it's on the mark of some absurdities that go on at the station. An overall theme of "anything can be a competition." It's more realistic than Chicago Fire or Station whatever on ABC.

They took that part very seriously. It was their "mission", I think, and the over-the-top drama and ghost stories were just the excuses to tell the station life stuff.

At least that's my take on the show as a whole.

I gotta couple of friends that are firefighters and they say that the only thing ever done close to perfect was Ladder 49.

Ladder 49.

Great movie. It's really a tribute to the fire service after 9/11. Backdraft gets quoted at the station as much as Lonesome Dove out on the ranch but it's shamefully inaccurate

Another really good movie is Only The Brave. Great cast, fairly accurate from a FF standpoint, and based on a true story. Miles Teller and Josh Brolin both do fantastic jobs. There are moments where Brolin nails the radio traffic. There are recordings of the communication between incident command and Eric Marsh's hotshot crew. Just typing this short paragraph is making me wanna go watch it again.

100% rewatchable. The jokes are still the best and crack me up in the firehouse. If it aired new today, not sure it would make it with the **** we have running things now.
