Mizuno Hi-Fli Driving Iron

So lately I’ve been debating to ditch the 3 wood. I feel modern drivers are at a point where they are so forgiving a 3 wood is starting to loose its place, at least in my bag. I don’t find I hit more fairways with my 3 wood than with my driver anymore. And I trust a 5 wood off the deck more than I do a 3 wood. So I decided to ditch it and pick up a driving iron. Got fit with a Hi-Fli 3 iron with a Hzardus black x-stiff shaft. Surprised at how easy it is to hit. I was looking for something lower flying to go between my 4 hybrid and 5 wood. Excited to get it in then bag and test it out on the course.

I would think that 3 DI would be around 5w distance in that setup. Is that what you saw on the monitor?

I’ve got my 5 wood turned down to 16.5 or 17 degrees. I’d have to check to see. This 3 iron is 19 degrees. Doesn’t go quite as far as my 5 wood.

I've had them in 3 and 4 iron since 2011 and they aren't going anywhere.

I would have loved a driving iron 25 years ago. It would have been a lot more fun then hitting my Ping 1 and 2 irons.
I see a lot of guys using the Srixon Driving irons. Mizuno Fli-Hi clubs have always been popular.
One that has received good reviews is the new Wilson driving iron.

I have a Mizuno Fli-Hi 3 iron in my bag. That was the lowest loft at the time (2009). I love this club and when I'm having a tough day with the driver, this club is my security blanket. Almost always in the fairway. The trade-off is distance. Only 205, maybe 210, on a good day. I have always been able to hit long irons pretty well. This club is pretty easy to hit.

I've thought about ditching the 3W for a driving iron for some time. Anyone else play D, DI, 3-4H setup?

I gotcha, my 5 wood is 19 so was thinking they were about same loft.

I ditched my 3 wood in my current set up. My current safe tee shot is a bunt drive that’s way more accurate than my 3 wood could ever dream about. My next two clubs are a 17 UW and a Mizuno Fli Hi 3 iron bent to 21 degrees. A 240 club off the tee which is money.

Right now I have driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, then get into irons (4-pw)
My 3 hybrid is a TM sim2. It launches high and I have it in the bag when it’s wetter with more rough like it has been recently, or if I’m playing a course a little more open than OCC.
I also have a TM sim DHY 2-iron hybrid that is soft as butter. It launches super low bullets and I’ll switch out the 3 hybrid for it when it’s dry and I can get some roll. Or when I’m playing tighter fairways where I don’t have to hit driver every hole.
I love both clubs.
