Really enjoying it. Vince Vaughn is perfect in this type of role

I was surprised at how good it was. Really liked it and hoping it doesn’t drop off.

Vaughn feels like perfect casting. I'm not sure there's enough plot for 10 episodes but I'm really liking the vibe. There are only 2 books in this series so I'm not sure what the plan would be for more seasons but I would probably watch it.

Enjoying it myself, though they spend a little too much time with the Voodoo queen and crew in the Caribbean. They need to stick with Vince in the Keys.

And I do enjoy the tits on the coroner

I feel like the show kinda needs either the Caribbean plot (it's from the book) or to do the Justified thing of mixing in a case of the week with him also going after each seasons main bad guy. If not it's a rather thin plot but a cool hang out show.

Watched the first episode and really enjoyed it. Doesn’t feel like anything groundbreaking or legacy level just damn good tv.

Enjoyed the first episode. Hope it maintains

Apple TV has some great content but they aren’t the best at promoting it.

Bump to the current week.
4 episodes in, anyone still watching?
The wife and I binged all 4 this weekend, I agree the VooDoo angle is a little contrived, but it looks like it will stick around the whole season, as we are finally starting to see the Bahamas and the Keys stories intertwine.
Vaughn is just a likeable actor, his cadence and delivery no matter what character he plays is always entertaining.

I’m still in it and enjoying it. Anxious to see how the 2 story lines intersect

Thanks for the bump, we just caught up on episode 4 over the weekend.
I'm digging the vibe of the show and the state of Florida playing its own character. Really well done. I know the show is based on a novel but for me it has a bit of a Dave Barry/Elmore Leonard type of humor which I appreciate. I'm also a big Vince Vaughn fan so him playing this character I think is a great match. I'm a fan of some of the other cast members as well. The narration was jarring at first but as you get into the show it has an appeal.
I will go ahead and nitpick just a bit.
- Episode 4 took some steam out of my sails. I'm not sure why we had to have everything explained to us now, obviously, can't conclude until we see the whole season but I just kind of feel like we know too much. Also, the shift of the villain role didn't completely sell me. The whole thing just seemed a bit shoehorned in there and the dad/daughter initial divide was not what I was expecting.
- The Yancy/Rosa romance doesn't feel needed. I kind of preferred the way of Yancy and Rosa playing off each other and his old partner kinda being the guy in the middle to make both sides understand. We already have a romantic angle with Bonnie, which I guess we're still waiting to see what happens there, so now I'm sure we'll get some love triangle moments and a will they/won't they moment soon.
Ready for tomorrow night.

Bonnie is way up with the crazy on the crazy hot scale. They threw in her having sex with one of her students and probably will have more issues discovered. She creates her problems more than she is a victim of her husband (husband is still wrong). Rosa is on the good trajectory for a relationship.
About Bonnie - Michelle Monaghan has kept some consistent good looks thru her mid 40s into being 48 now and has passed up others who used to be considered hotter (where Michelle was still considered to be pretty but not as hot as others in the past).
During the last episode during the flashback with Yancy a Miami detective I thought I saw a little more of the Vince Vaughn energy from some of his better comedies. Before some of his lines seemed tired at times.
The voodoo stuff gets old, but it was kind of funny when Rose from Lost started to try the circle on her granddaughter.
The other thing that gets a little old is the voice of the narrator. I am not sure why the captain of fishing boat hardly seen is narrating everything, but maybe that’s answered later.

what do you guys compare this too? is it too over the top silly?
Posted on 9/3/24 at 3:31 pm to dallastiger55
I don't think it's that silly but I don't have a great comparison.
I think the intention is for it to be a comedy with some serious/dark elements, but right now it's not hitting the latter part for me. It's still fun to watch, but I do think the goal may have been to achieve a little more depth/intrigue through the villain storyline and at present it's pretty weak IMO.
In short, on the current trajectory I can honestly say I've quite enjoyed it but that I would fully expect my interest to wane from here

It isn't really over the top silly. I'm not sure if there is a direct comparison but maybe something like a 70s noir crime comedy set in Florida instead of LA.

That’s my thinking, I’ve actually enjoyed the narration
