Any advice on transferring guns from a dead relative?

Figured some of you guys have dealt with this before. My dad died last year. He loved guns and had somewhere around 50. My mom has no use for them. I told her I want to come get some of his really nice ones and also a couple that have sentimental value. There's an over/under .22/410 that was my great grand dad's for example and I'd love to have the revolver he carried everyday. Mostly I want to get them before my stupid brothers sell them for dope
I live in CO and he was in TN. I assume I have to ship them FFL to FFL, not just UPS or USPS?
Most curious about how I register them. Obviously he's not here to say I sold these guns to this guy and I imagine there's more than just saying "these belong to me now"
I've Googled a lot of this but always appreciate hearing from those with experience. Thanks in advance

Sorry about the passing of your dad. Hope you can get it all straightened out before they disappear, I have seen that happen in my family.

Go get them in person. Unless there's some bs laws in Colorado I don't know about you shouldn't have to transfer or register unless they're full auto or something like that.

No, there isn't. That's exactly how it works. I don't know about the shipping other than I can tell you I wouldn't. I'd drive down to Tennessee and get what I wanted and drive back.

Thank you Tucky Tiger
And I know I know White Bear
It's one of those trips I don't really want to make. It's going to be very emotional and mom will melt the entire time
But yea, need to just get it done.

Considered the drive as well. It was a lot of fun as a young man. I'm 50 now and thinking of all the extra piss breaks and achy back that would entail
I'd prefer to do it that way though

Why wouldn't you ship? All 5 I have here in the house came from either Palmetto State or another online dealer and shipped here no issues.

I don't know the rules or risks regarding shipping firearms privately. I know the laws regarding private sale or inheriting them very well. All the shipping of firearms I have ever dealt with involved ffl transfer, which is not necessary in your case. If my dad had left 50 guns, I would want quite a few, and shipping that many seems ridiculous. The cost/packaging/risk of destruction/theft/loss would make it not worth it for me.

Makes sense, appreciate it

Fly to TN, rent a car and drive home with the guns. Weekend trip.

^^^
I think this is the way.
I must have typed something wrong cause when i looked last night at renting a one way car Nashville>Denver and it was outrageous, like $1500. Changing dates may have helped. Looked again and can get a compact shitbox Tues-Fri for $415. Figure $200 in gas tops? Flight's covered on points. Hotels too but I'd probably just catch a nap at a Wal-Mart or state park
ETA - I'd just drive there and back but my car is a 23 year old BMW. It's fun as shite locally but I don't know if she's up for a 3200+ mile road trip
Thanks again

This would be a great time to repair things with your brother.
Go together, flip a coin, winner gets first choice, then trade picks. Add a bottle of your dad’s favorite liquor and you two will have a great time.

You take possession of your Dad's firearms. They're yours. That's the transfer process unless suppressors are involved ... or an SBR or Machinegun.

Go pick them up in person. On the way back rent a boat for a scenic ride on the TN river. Damn shame all those guns are now lost at the bottom of that river due to boat flipping over.

If you email me a list I’ll gladly send you offers on some or all and drive from Baton Rouge to get what you don’t want if we can make it worth it.

God, these communists have conditioned the American people to be loyal subjects.
