"Yellow Banana" is a racist slur?

Someone shouted it during then tennis match between QInwen and Vekic. The opening statement of the article says "Qinwen was the alleged victim of racist abuse from a spectator who repeatedly yelled “yellow banana” during her landmark US Open win.."
I have so many questions.

Isn't calling an Asian "banana" similar to calling a black person an Uncle Tom?

It means “Asian (yellow) on the outside but white inside”. Not sure why it would be directed to this player, and using “yellow” seems superfluous.
