The guy QB’d some big wins, notable Florida in ‘97. Had a great record until the end of his LSU career where things kind of bottomed out. That said, he was essential to the turnaround under Dinardo.

Curious where you all rank him out of Booty, Howard, Davey, Randall, Mauck and anybody else from the 90’s to the Miles tenure.

No offense, but Tyler probably wouldn't have even gotten an offer in the Saban and post Saban era

bullshite!

There were some pretty shitty QBs offered in the Saban and post-Saban era.

More importantly, Tyler would have excelled in the Saban and post-Saban era just like he did under DiNardo.

Tyler had a higher Completion Percentage and QB Rating than:
Booty,
Mauck,
Randall,
Flynn,
Jefferson,
Lee,
Harris,
Jennings, and
Etling.

Yeah, I'd go

Ro
Mauck
Herb

Herb had a really nice senior season in 98, but the defensive issues (and subsequent losing record) make people forget it.

Behind Rohan, Booty, Mauck, Flynn, Perrilloux, and Mett. Ahead of the others.

Herb was strictly a game manager until his senior year but the D was so bad it didn't matter. He's remembered very fondly because those teams brought us out of a long dry spell and the Florida game is a marquee win, where he was very good in the game.
However, the rant would not be a fan of modern Herb. People were reminiscing about Cecil against Auburn a couple threads down. Herb going 6-21 with two picks in that game wasn't mentioned. Something like that doesn't go under the radar for all the bad Miles era QBs.

Herb was better than Jamie Howard and Nall from the DiNardo Era

I would put Herb above Booty and Randall from Saban's Era

The bigger questions is do you take Herb over
Hatch (yes)
Jordan Jefferson (yes)
Jarrett Lee (yes)
Anthony Jennings (yes)
Brandon Harris (maybe)

This is mainly based off how Miles wanted to play ball control, had a great defense, and still liked to run the option. Herb would have fit in well with that.

Mauck, he took us to a Championship
How does Perriloux even get a thought?
What was his record again?

Matt Mauck
Rohan Davey

..pick one

Although I will say that the game was much different in that era. Jordan Jefferson would likely have been an all SEC qb in that era in an option offense. And no that's not a joke.

I am always amazed that people don't rank Bert Jones in their top 3. Maybe it's generational.
Consensus All American
First Round draft choice - Baltimore Colts
Inducted into the College Hall Of Fame
NFL league MVP 1976
4th in Heisman vote

There are only 2 QBs (at most) better than Bert Jones in LSU history.

1-0. His question was where would you rank Herb Tyler. Perrilloux was undoubtedly a better QB than Herb Tyler just like Cecil Collins was better than Rondell Mealey even though he didn’t play much at LSU.

lolwut

I thought we were talking Curley thru Saban.

I love Herb, but he'd be waaaay below 3rd all time. Come on man. Burrow, Jayden, Jamarcus, Hodson, etc.

Not even going to entertain ranking him, he was in a league of his own. He was a totally different QB than the others so ranking him against them is unfair.

Love me some Herb Tyler dude was just a winner

It was a different era and style of offense, but I loved Herb! He was a tough SOB running the option.

However, he would undoubtedly struggle in today’s spread offenses. As great of a Tiger as he was, make no mistake about it, he didn’t have that much arm talent.
