Randazzo's is my favorite.
I would like to branch out and try some more though...thoughts?
Thanks.

I second Haydel's. Love em.

Gambino's?
I always get the ones from Ralph's Supermarket.

i typically prefer the king cakes made by donut shops. i prefer the texture of the bread more than the "french bread" type. i also prefer the glaze to the gritty sugar variety.
oh, and cream cheese icing. c'est bon.

Haydel's cream cheese filled is my favorite. For regular king cakes, I do like Manny Randazos. Hard to get a cake at that place the last week of mardi gras because he sells out so fast.
Haydels is having a kings day/customer appreciating thing tomorrow. Free samples and someone is supposed to be cooking crawfish monica and some other items to be given away. Not sure what time it starts and ends, but I will be there at lunch.

Antoine's Bakery makes the best king cakes in NOLA.
I like Ambrosia in BR.

Haydel's sucks, but I don't like the filled king cakes. Randazzo's is the way to go.

honest question....if you ate these cakes somewhere else, not at mardi gras time, and it was just a regular bakery item, would you really like them? Assume they tasted exactly the same.

There's nothing about a king cake, generically speaking, that would make me think I would have any other opinion about it regardless of time or place. Its bread and sugar, two things I happen to really like.

I would still like it, but maybe not as much...tough to say since strong childhood memories and nostalgia are deeply tied into my feeling on king cake.
My guess would be that I would like Randazzo's king cake regardless.
Footballislife, that thing at Haydel's sounds good...if you find out any more info, let us know. It may be worth my drive at lunch.

+1
It's probably the only reason I prefer Randazzos as well, thats just what my grandma always bought.
