First domino to fall. Will Trey get his before Monday's Deadline?

Edit.
Trey extended. Good deal.

I sure hope we extend Trey. It just makes to much sense!

I'm not convinced a Murphy deal gets done before the deadline. The team would like to lock him up on a friendly team, but I doubt Trey is thinking team-friendly extension. He just still has a bit to prove before you commit a major chunk of cap to him.

jalen Suggs is awesome
jalen green is not awesome

rox will regret that deal, at least there’s an option. I doubt they’ll be too disappointed if he opts out

Those contracts are why I thought a deal might not get done. I thought Trey would be seeking that kind of money, which would be a tough pill.

I love Murphy just like everyone else but at least half the reason is that he’s such a good dude and easy to appreciate. The fact is though to this point he has not been a game changer game in and game out. We’ve heard “potential”. Since he got here and that’s fine he’s improving but not at any point has he ever been the best player on the floor during his minutes. The deal is fair and I’m not sure the team would have paid any more than that

For those struggling with the math of it all, that fifth year is pro team. We would have wanted Trey at 5 years, and it would have been $33 million more likely, so 5 years and $145. That’s what you are comparing to these deals. These teams likely gave a little more for that cheap 5th year. And Jalen Johnson and Suggs are really good players. These are all good deals in a depressed market with guys dealing with restricted rights.

But you're assuming they even wanted a 5th year in the first place. I actually like 4 years for non star players especially since he's already 24 and not an all star yet.

if he stays the exact same player, the 5th year then will be more expensive than the 5th year would be now. The reason he took a little less is to not be tied up in year 5.

absolutely the team would have wanted 5 years

Don't agree. The Zion era is still not a sure thing and Trey's value to the team is tied to Zion and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. The way the contracts are laid out is perfect.

Herbs contract expires in 2027.
Murray and Zion expires in 2028.
Trey expires in 2029.

There's no lengthy contracts to worry about if they need to rebuild. For a small market team, it set up perfect if they need to wipe the slate clean if Zion can't stay healthy.
