Making my way cross country for the holidays and want to get a good book or two in.
I am not a huge reader but have read most John Grisham. I like suspense, mystery, thriller novels. With that said, open to anything entertaining. TIA

The Road
The Martian
Project Hail Mary.
Not necessary what you asked for. But those are 3 books I couldn't put down.

I’ll second The Martian and Peject Hail Mary.
Also more in the thriller/mystery world, the Dan Brown books (Da Vinci Code for example) would fit this bill.

The Grey Man series by Mark Greaney
The Sigma Force series by James Rollins (The Devils Crown in particular)
Dungeon Crawler Carl, might be the best audio book series I have ever listened to.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

I am Pilgrim, by Terry Hayes.
quote:
A breakneck race against time...and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Pilgrim.'

If you're into history at all, consider one of the long form Hardcore History - Blueprint for Armageddon (WWI), Supernova in the East (WWII - Pacific, but the origins and lead up, too) or Death Throes of the Republic (Rome).

I’m going to fourth Project Hail Mary. One of the best narrated audiobooks I’ve ever listened to.

20 hour car ride= look for unabridged (word for word adaptation) versions; most audiobooks are pretty cut down for shorter listens.
suspense, mystery, thriller= Plum Island, I Am Pilgrim, Day of the Jackal (currently remade on Peacock but the original book and movie are where it is at), Gorky Park, A Coffin for Demetrius, The Hunt for Red October, The Killing Floor, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Tell No One, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold.
