I’m sure it’s been mentioned before, but I just watched the documentary again. What an awesome gesture by Elton to make certain that Leon knew how much he meant to him and his career. Also making sure those of us who remember Leon from years ago, wouldn’t forget him and introduce Leon to those who didn’t know his music.
I’ve always been a huge fan of T Bone Burnett. He just did some work with Larkin Poe and Elvis Costello which I thought was cool, and produced the BoDeans, another favorite band of mine.

Leon Russell - A Song For You
I absolutely love Elton and his vast catalog, but he never had a song, nor performed it as well, as this weathered smokers throated version by Russell. Just epic! Downright Westerberg 'Unsatisfied' esque.

They had a concert in the Cajundome in 2010 during their The Union joint tour. Pretty good show.

I had a chance to book Leon in the Spanish Moon in ‘99 and didn’t pull the trigger. Big regret, but I was too young to understand his legacy and importance at the time.

Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom (guitars/vocals), put out an excellent biography on him last year... highly recommended.
