I remember
Think about it.
Think about it.

Meh.
One is technological advancement and the other is outsourcing foreign human labor.

Both result in unemployed Americans.

One thing you didn't hear about is all the humans being smuggled they find in those containers.

And both done to decrease operating expenses

automation also increases productivity and efficency.

There is no comparison.
Longshoremen are bitching about tech advancements.
Should we never innovate and improve?
Should we not use email at work because it put mail room people out of work?
Second, longshoremen are entitled fricks.
It's a nepotism job.
Go get every crane certificate available.
Get 20 years experience.
You'll never be hired unless you are related to the right person.
It's worse than trying to get hired as an operator in S Louisiana from a nepotism perspective.

I did. And I for one hope good red-blooded patriotic American union men (prolly mobbed up, but oh well) are unloading ships in our ports. Kinda keep an eye on things.

So does hiring the best people available, regardless of what country they are from

They didn't get hate for fighting against automation. They got hate for threatening the nation.

I don’t need to think about it. What if the buggy whip manufacturers had killed the automobile? There is no more obvious issue that port automation; it should happen.

There is nothing good about the Longshoremen's union or their asinine demands.

buggy whip manufacturers
Or, Kodak film.
Or, typewriters.
Or, record players.
Or slide rule manufacturers.
On and on.
You're correct.
Port automation absolutely needs to happen.
It's lifting and moving rectangular boxes from docked shops to trucks and rail.
It's ripe AF to be automated.
