Opinions on Mid-Sized Pickups?

Stepping down in size, want a 4x4 work truck with crew cab, but nicely dressed. I’ll hunt out of it too.
I’m seeing Tacomas have had issues recently, Ford has introduced Rangers since I last shopped. Chevy Canyons and Nissan Frontiers are a consideration. What am I missing and love to hear recommendations based on real world experience

FYI, Tacomas are made in Mexico now.

Chevy Canyons
Well there are Chevy Colorados and GMC Canyons.
Ive been casually looking and if I was to purchase today I’d try to find a last gen Tacoma. If buying new it would be the Canyon AT4.

The canyon at4 is the best looking mid size right now IMO.
Toyota sold out and are abandoning their historical clientele by pricing their whole lineup like they are Lexus.

I like the Frontier but I hear it drives like a battleship. I looked at Tacoma but went 4Runner because I just couldn't justify needing a truck bed vs. enclosed. Same frame and general size.

Based on looks and I think a na v6 I’d go Nissan I think.

I got a Honda Ridgeline Trailsport in September.I really like it rides like a dream.Towing capacity only 5,000 lbs, might be an issue for you but it’s all I need.
I was always a Toyota Tacoma, guy but I wasn’t keen on 4 cylinder with turbocharger. It may be fine but I’ll let others find out.
I actually still have a Tacoma 4wd but I’m letting grandson drive it.2010 and never had 1st problem with it except for a U joint. Honda rides smoother.
All I can say is go to Honda dealer and check out the Ridgeline, won’t cost you anything.

Reliability is my main concern with a vehicle. If it is the same for you then there is only two answers. Frontier or older Tacoma with V6.

Tacomas have always been made in Mexico, Always !!!!!!
Tacomas never made in Japan.
Do your research.
Toyota has ruined the Tacoma with no 6 cylinder.
Frontier for the win, for now !!!!

I have no Idea about now days but I no from vehicles I have driven in yota canyon and then frontier
Canyon is a pretty good rig and can be made pretty good dune and river bar trucks like a yota same for the frontiers. They are all light and good work trucks I would go as basic as you can physically go and put seat covers and rubber mats maybe pay extra for rubber flooring.

I bought my son a new Frontier when he left for college in ‘23. We knew he was going to be putting a LOT of miles on it in a few year spans, so I bought a 150,000 mile warranty. So far the only issue has been a wheel sensor. He loves the truck and I have been satisfied so far.

That's a negative Ghost Rider.
My 2010 Taco was made in Fremont, California. It says so on the door jam.

The last Toyota Tacoma produced at NUMMI was a red model on March 26, 2010.
Toyota announced the closure of the NUMMI plant in 2010.
After 2010, Tacomas for North America were produced in San Antonio, Texas and Baja California, Mexico.
I'm pretty sure almost all of them are made in Mexico now.
Also, the new 4Runners will no longer be made in Japan. I believe production is being moved to Mexico as well.

I stepped down from an F150 into a Frontier. No complaints or issues. The steering is heavy on my '22. Not sure if they've addressed that issue in the newer models.

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is made at Toyota's Tahara plant in Japan

People think they are "heavy" because they are old school steering shaft to rack/pinion setup. It's not as easy as the drive-by-wire setups most use today but it's not like turning an 18 wheeler.
There is really nothing to address.
