Anyone have some advice on the hunting there? i have hiked the nearby clark creek many many times so i am familiar with the terrain and what i am getting into.

my questions are:

saddle stand or a climber stand?

North tract or south tract for deer hunting?

can you place game cameras on deer trails, scrapes, etc on the property?

basic hunter etiquette?

Hunt edge of thickets, deer trails or hunt ridges?

Thanks in advance!

saddle is always going to be the better option for public land. Way more tree selection, a lot lighter and less bulky.

I squirrel hunt there quite a bit, haven't deer hunted it much. I'd go with a saddle but if you have a climber I don't think you'd have too much trouble finding a tree to put it on. I'd hate to lug one around out there, though.

Have you ever been out there? The south track is one of the most laborious places to hunt in Louisiana. Well worth it, as there are plenty of deer, but you will 100% need a game plan on pack out if you kill one.

Follow the creek beds in and then you can scale straight up a hill to a ridge top to hunt, or hunt in a draw between multiple ridges where it comes down to the creek. Those have always been the most successful places ive seen. Just ease down the creek and look for where they are crossing. either set up there or ease to thicket on top of ridge.

Clark Creek is flat ground compared to South Track

Regarding other hunters/etiquette--most are great out there, but there are quite a few that treat it as their private hunting club and quite honestly can be a pain. (but thats every WMA).

North 3 trail ends at a creek, easy to locate trails that lead to and fro feeders on the private property across creek. I’ve taken 3 does and a 7 point at that location several seasons ago. Got too old to deal with getting dead animals outta that nightmare. Good luck!

Bring a 22/shotgun and make it a squirrel hunt. They're thick in there.

this might be a dumb question but can you walk the atv trails or are people gonna give you a weird stare?

and do you mean the atv trail?

you're fine to walk them but those trails generally get the most pressure due to ease of access.

If someone gives you a weird look, just smile and wave.

Hope you’re in really good shape because that terrain will humble you quickly if not.

As of now, yes. But LDWF commission is proposing to ban the use of trail cams on all WMA’s and that will probably be passed at their next meeting. So trail cams will probably be banned for next season

ETA: if you plan to walk in a way off the trail, I’d recommend bringing reflective tacks or trail marking tape to make sure you can find your way back out. Easy place to get turned around in, especially in the dark.

I'm gonna bet there's more cameras in WMAs next year than this year, even with the "ban".

Green Jeans don't leave the parking lot and every hunter knows it.

Just make sure to pull the tape down when you're done, nobody likes litter.

Buddy of mine does well there. He killed 3 this year with his bow. Said he averages about 1.5 miles to his spots. Quarters them in the field and packs them out. I'm not that hard up for deer meat I'll just be lazy and hunt my lease.
