Anyone keep a rod and reel w/small variety of lures in their truck just in case you see an interesting patch of water?

yes, and its been a lot of fun.
i see small creeks in western nc and have been known to be wearing a suit and tossing a ned rig into clear water.
done pretty well.

I have one for 15 or so years but have never used it. But it's there.

I keep a Zebco Dock Demon spinning setup from walmart with a sacalait jig tied on under my back seat, thing has pulled in some decent sized goo off my dock so I have faith in it if a miracle happens

You looking for cheap? I have ARK Genesis two piece rods. You can use any reel. Tackle Warehouse has Fenwick two piece rods on sale now.

I used to keep a cheap retractable one in my toolbox when working levee construction. Idk how many reds i caught sight casting while driving along the levee.
I want to say it was a 6' quantum. With a crappy Abu baitcaster. Easy easy. See fish, whip out the rod, click into freespool, one good pull on the tip, then let it fly. Catch and release, retract back, and I was gone in a couple minutes.
If buying today I see Daiwa makes a retractable Procyon. I'd probably give that whirl and take better care of it under my back seat instead of tool box

I usually take one or two with me when I go to the bahamas. Hit up the mangroves and catch 18" - 20" barracudas and anything else lurking around. Tough little combos.
