We’re going to regret this signing.

This franchise will never learn

He is going to have to fit alot better in a 3-4 for this signing to be worth it. We’ll see

Backloaded contract. That 26 and 27 cap space is being spent fast.

I’ll wait to see what the guaranteed money is, but I’m glad he is back.

17 a year isn’t exactly crazy for a pass rusher. He was good this year still recovering from injury but didn’t finish enough.
I guess they are going to stand up him up a lot.
I don’t know. I get wanting to keep a pass rusher. It’s one of the 3 positions you pay.
I do wish we’d go all in on financial responsibility but it’s not gonna happen.

He signs a 1 year prove it deal, finishes 60th in sacks with 5.5 and now we pay him like a top 10 pass rusher! WTF!

I mean par for the course would be at least 27-30 million

We’re switching to a 3-4 and he’s more of a 4-3 end right?

I know it’s completely impossible for you to be anything but over the top negative, but I promise you, you can try to be objective.
Chase was good this year. He had a lot of pressures. He didn’t finish enough but he was good

Correct. I was already pissed at the move and now it’s more Loomis malfeasance.

Objectively if he was good this year, other teams would be throwing offers and money at Young he couldn’t refuse. Nobody really wants to play here.
The market doesn’t agree with your rosy projection and opinion, thus he’s stuck here with us overpaying yet again.

Good is a stretch. He also goes half assed on way too many plays.

PFF’s 7th best Edge Free agent
quote:
In 2024, he was a top-20 edge defender in total quarterback pressures (66) and pressure rate (14.6%). He may not be the perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate he looked like as a prospect ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, but Young is still a high-end No. 2 edge rusher for any team in need.

These distinctions are overrated these days.
Yes, you need guys that fit like a NT, but all teams are multiple now. Even under DA they ran 3 man fronts and had Chase standing up on occasion.
They will run 4, 3, and 2 man fronts. They will line him up with his hand in the dirt in 4 and 3 man fronts, they will have him standing up in 3 and 2 man fronts.

Seems like a bit of an overpay considering the change in systems and him being ok but nothing amazing. At least he’s still pretty young and won’t even be 30 when this contract is up.
