New Fan Market

So whats up with most all new fans these days going with DC motors that run off of one hot wire? Every house, old and modern, has 2 switches/ hot wires going to the fan for the light and the fan. so you can turn each /off independently. Now they all come with a remote, which is fine and dandy the first day but what happens when you lose the remote? you cant control your light or fan?
I get the DC motor is 1 of the 2 things.... more efficient(what they are selling) or just cheaper to build, than AC motors. But i hate not having control of the device without a remote(or app if you have that feature)

I hung a new ceiling fan that fits what you've described yesterday. I screwed the holder for the remote to the wall next to the light switch, and I'm highly considering using gorilla glue to glue the remote to the base plate. But then at some point I'll have to change the battery and that'll become a problem. For now I have told the wife to not remove the remote, but we all know how that's going to end.

The DC fans are more efficient and push more air but I agree, I hate the damn remote.

I like the remote. Fan on full blast all night, grab the remote on the nightstand and turn down right before I get up.
Just wait, another 10 years and remotes will be phased out and you'll have to use an app to do it. Then I'll be annoyed.

I have on in my office and the remote messed up.
I bought a variable speed fan switch at Lowes and connected the fan to the variable and the light to the light switch side.
Works fine but I don't have a reverse.

I just use AC fans indoor. Ourdoor, I need to battle Mother Nature so DC works best. My outdoor fans were all single switch anyway as they have never had light kits and I don’t think many outdoor fans do.
