It really is. It’s completely senseless, and anyone who gives it a few seconds of thought will admit that. Yet, they continue to spew nonsense, and half the population continues to nod along to what they say, no matter what they say.

That shows been losing money for years. The real question is why did the powers to be allow it to continue this long?

If the internet is correct and the show was losing $40,000,000 a year then yes, it was about ratings. It could still be about the merger. They might have been told to cut the losses before the deal is finalized. Pretty easy to see a show that costs $100,000,000 to produce which is losing $40,000,000, should be jettisoned. Late night numbers continue to decline and I don't ever see them coming back. Carson got 9 million people a night. Colbert 2.4 million. You used to have to watch talk shows if you wanted to see your favorite stars and learn more about them. The internet wiped out the need for talk shows just like it killed print media. They could show old CBS tv shows in the place of late night talk and make more money with marginal cost. Years ago, here in Nola, Mama's family & Mash rerurns routinely beat late night. And that was before the decline of late night tv.
