If you’ve been sharing account access to HBO Max, the good times are soon coming to an end. JB Perrette, head of streaming and gaming at Warner Bros. Discovery said on the company’s second-quarter earnings call that messaging to consumers is about to get more “aggressive.” The media company looking to close the loopholes by the end of 2025, with the impact starting to appear in its financials by 2026. Following in Netflix’s lead, WBD, Disney and other media companies are all ramping up efforts to limit password sharing, anticipating a significant financial payoff from cracking down on once-overlooked practice.

I can see lower bandwidth coming from this. I don’t see a ton of people who aren’t legally paying for the service suddenly paying for it.

Netflix doesn’t make it that hard for someone else to use, my FIL uses ours to watch his wrestling every Monday night. When we go to use it again Netflix will send a text code to make our IP the home account again. I’m kind of torn on the login and password sharing, it is what it is.

Netflix used to encourage password sharing...lol.
Very clever long plan.

My in-laws only continue paying for it because all the kids and their families use it. They even said they’d keep it for that reason a couple of years back.
They’ll cancel the second the rest of the family can’t access it. This can’t be the only example of this.

I use my adult daughter's, who uses one of my subscriptions.. if that goes away I won't miss it too much, only so many cooking shows and 1000lb sisters I can watch anyway.

It appears the day has come when HBO Max has actually cracked down on password sharing.
I went to log into the account my family has been sharing and got a message saying that I am not the home address and to watch, I would have to make my location the home address or say that I'm traveling.
Have read up and if you are logged into traveling for too long or change home base too often, can impact account.

I rarely use Netflix. There’s nothing on there that I want to watch. The only reason I still have it is that my kids use it. HBO Max doesn’t have much to watch either. It is a shell of what HBO use to be.

I don’t know how HBO will handle that but with Netflix we have been changing home base every week since January so my FIL can watch wrestling and it hasn’t effected anything.

quote:Yep! Making that switch was a great decision. Now I can watch whatever I want and KEEP it. I had to invest in a NAS though since those files add up!

Just keep grabbing cheap 16t Western digital drives
At worst one dies and you have to spend a couple weeks restoring a few movies and TV shows
