Other than developing Apple Silicon, the Airpods line, the Apple watch line, Apple Pay, the online services, etc.

They have what? A TRILLION in cash sitting in banks right now? They need to acquire an AI company. Similar to what Microsoft did with OpenAI
They’re developing robots and AI devices for homes.

They have enough money and staff to do both if they wanted to.

Chips
quote:
In 2008, Apple purchased another chip maker, called PA Semi, for $278 million. That start-up also specialized in making fast, low-power chips.

Intrinsity, Inc. was a privately held Austin, Texas based fabless semiconductor company; it was founded in 1997 as EVSX on the remnants of Exponential Technology and changed its name to Intrinsity in 2000. It had around 100 employees and supplied tools and services for highly efficient semiconductor logic design, enabling high performance microprocessors with fewer transistors and low power consumption. The acquisition of the firm by Apple Inc. was confirmed on April 27, 2010.

The first Apple-designed system-on-a-chip was the Apple A4, which was introduced in 2010 with the first-generation iPad and later used in the iPhone 4, fourth generation iPod Touch and second generation Apple TV.
Original AirPod design was based on the EarPods which began under Jobs and announced after his death. Apple had been working on several types of wired headphones and even the iPhone Bluetooth Headset under Jobs. Ivy was also a Jobs hire. Technology needed to catch up to ideas at a marketable price.
Like the iPad being a big iPhone the watch is a small iPhone. A iPhone using smaller part of screen was even used strapped to developers wrists to develop gestures and interface guidelines while hardware being figured out While big push to finally design a watch stated in full after Jobs it was a complete adaptation of existing product and not something that wasn’t discussed under Jobs. Jobs was focused on iPad before he passed away. Ivy again was also a Jobs hire and protege. Cook typically focuses on making rainbow hires he can trot out on stage and in promotions.
Online services is a pretty broad topic and not exactly all new under Cook. iTunes under Jobs changed how people bought music. Also online services are still very hit or miss for Apple under both. I will say that all though there was always talk about buying a music company under Jobs Apple TV studio sure was likely Cook only, but it along with Apple TV+ also loses a billion or more a year.
Apple Pay may be all Cook outside of the technology used on the iPhone side of the transaction. The Apple credit card and working with Goldman Sachs were Cook’s as well.

Cook has spending some of that cash on stock buy backs since well before covid instead of on buying innovation or pushing it in house. Apple has set multiple records on their buy backs and have been very consistent about it.
It’s obviously not bare, but the listed cash on hand has debt attached to it now from bonds used to fund those buybacks and some of the dividend payments to avoid additional taxes that would have to be paid by transferring the cash into the US to use for those transactions.

- Apple Watch was not innovative

They shelved their Apple Vision because Meta was innovative and developed the Meta glasses. Again, they are copying other ideas.
