What isn't apparent is the wonderful smell of those tatami mats. My room in Japan had the standard sliding panels, a built-in wardrobe, a crazy comfortable legit futon and a single table where my Homestay mom placed a fresh single flower every day. From my window U could see the mountains and the oceans. It was a minimalists dream. Rooms are measured by the number of tatami mats-so they will say "your room is a 10 tatami mat room".

Cool video.

As someone who has spent many of my formative years in Japan and South Korea, 90% of the houses here are paper thin and poor quality.

This is an ancient technique and the builder/owner is probably rich.

Japan doesn’t have orcs to break through those paper thin walls like we have here
