Planning a June trip, flying into Miami and staying a couple of nights. Then making the drive to Key West but will make an overnight stay in Marathon. Then staying 3 nights in Key West. Excluding Key west, what are places to stay in Miami (south beach area) and Marathon? What are some sight seeing’s in South Beach?

Hyatt Andaz and Kimpton Surfcomber (South Beach) both have beach access and small boutique hotel vibes.
Baires Grill knocked our socks off.
On a Saturday or Sunday, go hang out at South Pointe Park and watch all the cruise ships head out.

We were just down there last week. We have a 4 year old, so sight seeing consisted of walking on the beach and people watching on Ocean Ave for us. We stayed at one of the Art Deco hotels on Ocean Ave, the Beacon. It was cool from a historical aspect, and you’re across the street from the beach, but it is dated. That area is really cool though, especially if you love Miami Vice vibes and Art Deco architecture.
Breakfast wise, all of those hotels on Ocean Ave have restaurants, and the breakfast we ate at the Avalon was good. We also had brunch at Sunnyside Cafe on 5th Ave one morning. It was excellent.
Last, I might get downvoted into oblivion for this, but Joe’s Stone Crab was disappointing. I got the surf and turf, wife got the seafood trio. Steak had no flavor. Do they just throw them in a 1000 degree oven with no seasoning and call it good? It was served with a sauce that I swear was A-1 that made it edible. The lobster looked good, but it was just whatever. Also, I got a baked potato as a side and the dude looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I asked for some butter and told me to pour the clarified butter that came with the lobster on it. I was like wtf, no. Bring me some butter. My wife said the seafood trio was alright, but not worth the price.
I was legitimately sad when we left. It’s such a beautiful restaurant, but damn it was a weird experience for us, and we’re not people that hold restaurants to unrealistic expectations, but it was not worth the price. We got a Caesar salad, a kid’s chicken strip plate, the two entrees and a baked potato. It was $250 before I tipped.
The Barton G recommendation, they’re temporarily closed (I guess for renovations?), or we would have gone there. Had a friend tell me it’s awesome 3-4 years ago and it was my first choice.
