Franchise Lost: Hilton removing MN hotel that canceled bookings for ICE & DHS workers

Bad business decision.....now I guess they'll have to find another flag - like Holiday Inn or go indy.

After the statement by Hilton, the hotel did not change course:
FedGov uses Hilton primarily for business travel - it's a huge part of that hotel's business.

In tweets on Monday, the Department of Homeland Security shared emails from Hilton showing a hotel had canceled rooms for its investigators after learning they were immigration enforcement.
The email stated: "After further investigation online, we have found information about immigration work connected with your name, and we will be canceling your upcoming reservation. You should see a proper cancellation email in your inbox shortly from Hilton."
Homeland Security responded by accusing Hilton of a "coordinated campaign" to "REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement."
After the statement by Hilton, the hotel did not change course:

Monday night, hours after Hilton and Everpeak said they were addressing the issue, conservative journalist Nick Sortor went to the hotel in question – the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeville – and attempted to book ten rooms posing as a Department of Homeland Security worker.
In the video, a front desk worker tells Sortor that they still weren't allowing ICE, DHS, or immigration enforcement as guests. In the surreptitiously recorded video, which Sortor says was shot shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, the worker says he recently spoke with the hotel's owner who hadn't mentioned any changes to the policy.
The worker then offers to call the owner, walks away, but returns and says he was unable to reach anyone at the late hour.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Hilton said it was "taking immediate action to remove this hotel from our systems." Hilton said the decision stemmed from the video that "clearly raises concerns that they are not meeting our standards and values."
The statement goes on to say: "Hilton is – and has always been – a welcoming place for all. We are also engaging with all our franchisees to reinforce the standards we hold them to across our system to help ensure this does not happen again."
As of 8 a.m., the Lakeville hotel was still showing up on Hilton's website for bookings.
FedGov uses Hilton primarily for business travel - it's a huge part of that hotel's business.

Good job dodging that bullet.

You pay for the franchise for their booking systems, loyalty systems that drive traffic, and their preferred rates for major corporate users.
If you don't like one of those corporate users....why did you spend $ millions on that franchise?

I'm sure the upvotes on Reddit were well worth it, someone might've given them Reddit gold too!

No, the Pritzker family owns Hyatt, not Hilton.

I guess it's going to be a Best Western or something......
Meaning the hotel rates and bookings just collapsed. And most likely Hilton is still going to want to find another operator to work with in that area since it's clearly a fairly new build in an area similar to Industriplex with a lot of companies nearby.

Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeville
On google maps - this is in a suburban area near a lot of small/medium sized mixed use type of businesses and a small airport nearby. It's not the type of small town hotel that would be ideal for an independent flag. It's clearly build to be a lower/mid tier major flag hotel.
I've actually had to go to that area for some of my major agri-business clients back in the day. There are only a couple of other major chain competitors (Hilton or Marriott flags). I stayed in the Marriott near Mall of America or up at the Courtyard by MSP. Just not that many other options on the southern side of that metro for business travelers with corporate rates or loyalty programs that are not near a major office park, downtown Minneapolis, St. Paul, or one of their giant shopping malls.
Having that flag and that back office booking systems is a gold mine for a hotel like that. Not having it is a nightmare. The owner likely will have to sell to someone who is a better partner for those major hotel flags or risk not being able to service what is likely a substantial debt to construct that place.
Corporate rates and agreements with massive corporate and government users is why you pay a fortune for those franchise agreements. Excluding them is a catastrophically stupid thing to do.

I'd say some kind of Holiday Inn but there is already two of those within a half mile - including a Candlewood and one of those older, historic Holiday Inns with an enclosed pool and restaurant in the middle (which is actually a great setup in that climate).

If they take these idiots off their website/booking site they will be fricked.
The democrats preach and preach about racism, it's hard to not be when every freaking story is about one of these groups they flooded the country with.

These Indians don’t care. They will rebrand. I worked for a Patels hotel and their saying was stupid Americans.

Marriott would never do this.

Hampton Inn is one of the best brands out there. I doubt Marriott or Holiday Inn would put up with this either. They will definitely lose business.

They will rebrand and Hiltons nationwide will lose business.
Very few will realize it was that specific hotel when booking one.
Plenty of online virtue signaling will ensue as well.

Someone has already mention Pritzker owning Hyatt... something tells me they'll be a Hyatt next week.
