Not even any primitive roads

About a 60 mile gap along the Panama-Colombia border separates segments of the Pan American highway.

quote:

The Darién Gap is a remote, roadless, and dangerous area of rainforest on the international border between Colombia and Panama. Stretching across southern Panama's Darién Province and the northern portion of Colombia's Chocó Department, it acts as a natural barrier between North America and South America. Consisting of a large drainage basin, dense rainforest, and mountains, it is known for its remoteness, difficult terrain, and extreme environment with a reputation as one of the most inhospitable regions in the world.

Migration Hub: Despite its dangers, it's a critical path for migrants from across the Americas (and beyond) fleeing hardship, with numbers spiking in recent years.
Dangers: Beyond the jungle's natural threats, migrants encounter armed gangs, smugglers, robbery, human trafficking, and violence, making it one of the world's deadliest routes.

It amazes me the lengths people will go through to reach the USA.

Although Venezuelans remain the most represented nationality for the past two years by a wide margin, with 328,667 individuals crossing in 2023, there has also been an unprecedented surge in extracontinental migrants from Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, who travel to South America in the hope of reaching the U.S.-Mexico border via the Darién Gap. According to a November 2023 report by the Crisis Group, an estimated 97 different nationalities crossed through the Darién in the first seven months of 2023, including significant numbers of Chinese migrants and Afghan refugees.

I think it was Benjamin from Bald and Bankrupt. His videos are a good watch.

I would have thought the same thing, but for some reason (maybe Venezuela) the topic has been popping up on Twitters today.

He crossed with Timmy Karter. Timmy's video was much better.

I learned this recently too.

I’ve heard of people that ride motorcycles from Tierra del Fuego to a point in Alaska, but I guess they ferry across the Darien Gap.
