What prevents someone from randomly taking to go orders?

I was picking up some Jersey Mikes I ordered on the app and it occurred to me no employee there ever asks for a name or ID. It's just sitting there waiting for someone to grab it.
Similar situation at Subway, but there I've at least been asked to confirm my name a time or two out of the many times I've ordered on the app.
So what keeps some degenerate from strolling in to one of the places at lunch when it's busy and grabbing a free meal?
Have you ever shown up to get food and it's gone when you got there?
Am I being profiled for having my shirt tucked in and wearing deodorant?

Yes

Happens all the time at Starbucks for those using app. Employees say they do nothing just fix another drink. Chalk it up as cost to doing business in the modern digital environment I would think.

I'm sure it happens from time to time even in nice areas, but most people aren't going to steal other's food.

My guess is this must happen a good bit, especially in big cities. Although they are probably more likely to ask for a name or verification in higher risk places.....You must live in a nice area.

A few years ago I placed a pick up order at Popeyes at around $60. I think it was a NFL playoff weekend and we had some family in town.
I walked in and stood around for a little bit and a customer asked which order I was waiting for. I told him and he informed me that a guy on a bike came in and snatched the order. I thought he was joking and laughed about it.
The manager came over and informed me that it really happened and they were working hard to get me another order ready.

They do take them. It’s already been paid for so the restaurant doesn’t give a frick. It usually falls on DoorDash or uber to make right with the customer.

What prevents someone from going in with a shotgun and robbing all the employees and customers? Easy money.

Jason's Deli is the worst. Huge metal rack right inside the door. They never pay attention. Anyone could duck in the door and grab a few bags.

That is slightly different.
The less fortunate are resourceful. If this thought just dawned on me, how is it not an already rampant problem with people who are economically disadvantaged?

Not being a complete moron.
If the order is for Karen, don't grab it if your name is Mike.

I'm talking about stealing, not a mix up.

I would hope morals would prevent people from stealing

They get your name from the App son.
Ain’t nobody just sitting orders around
DoorDash and shite has to know who’s who

Sort of similar, I was delivered the wrong door dash order a couple of weeks ago. Local Mexican restaurant, and we ordered a large cheese dip, steak quesadilla dinner, a few beef tacos, and a cheese quesadilla. The order arrived, and the tacos were chicken, the steak quesadilla was missing the rice and beans, and the cheese dip was missing. It was just a couple minutes away, so I drove over and they told me the driver probably dropped the wrong order off, since they had 2-3 orders picked up by one driver. The restaurant made it right.

Such a great subject. I’ve thought about this as well.
To date, I’ve never had an order missing.
I did go to an HEB once (my wife orders) so I just showed up for pickup. Again, I never do the order so I never know what to expect so I never question the people.
Anyways, they must’ve put $700-$800 worth of groceries in my ride. Nice stuff. Stuff I wouldn’t buy because I’m a little more frugal. We called but they can’t take groceries back so they told us to keep it.
Also, if I ever end up on the streets there is no doubt I’d clean up a bit and just waltz in looking at my phone only to grab an order

Kind of related but Walmart will begin scanning a QR code on your Walmart app when you go to pickup your order.

In cities near downtown, homeless will go in and take any bag sitting on the go rack. They still don’t make anyone verify ID before they take the bag.
