I’d just stop offering any NIL to Freshmen unless it’s a DJ Pickett Type.

The majority of the guys we bring in as underclassmen will transfer out by the time they could help,
Save that money and pay guys that will play real time on the field.

Yeah i said in another thread, don't pay HS players unless you are confident they can get significant playing time as Freshman. Otherwise they are going to take the bag, ride the pine, and portal out.

Yep. Spend that money on transfers from lower conferences for depth, and special teams.

Everyone gets paid.
You don’t even get a 3 star signed if they’re not getting paid. Now we don’t need to give them a huge raise every year just to keep them

It's the Jay Johnson way. Have to be so elite you can contribute big time in 1st or 2nd year. With rare exceptions

Yep, no reason to pay someone who is gonna leave when we bring in experienced upperclassmen and promise them PT.

It will become no different than the first round of the NFL draft
You pay positions of value, so the big-time HS QBs you think can be studs you will continue to pay good NIL to, like Payton Houston et al.
DLine, OT other high value positions worth chasing the studs, even if it takes some time to develop to regularly see the field. You don't want others getting hooks into these, especially the local kids.
Agree that many lower value positions won't require extending for HS kids which is why you see signing class numbers down

Except no cap. At this rate it won’t be long before returning All Americans are getting 10-15 million a year. Look at the way this has escalated over the past four years.
I wouldn’t waste my funds on unproven assets.

Rosters still need to be filled. Instead of signing a bunch of mid and lower tier 4 stars that look good in the recruiting rankings, but most will never contribute before they hit the portal, allocate more of those spots to 3 star types.
They are cheaper, don’t expect to play immediately, don’t have name recognition or the benefit of a “former four star recruit” label, and will hang around for a minimum of 2-3 years to help stabilize a roster from year to year.

Yeah because it’s hundreds of dj picketts lying around everywhere

This is pretty much what LSU did in the last signing class. Wasn't it only 11 guys and still a top 10 class with highest average rating per player?

need caps on each position
No portal in first 2 years
players get paid and Choosing a school/program for the right reasons come back in play. money wont be the advantage

Can’t really blame the freshmen transfers either though. They come in knowing they’re not going to be immediately ready for SEC ball. Year 2 is where most really become starters, and then the school signs a junior or senior from the transfer portal that’s better and more experienced.

Either that or sign a long term contract with a stupid buyout of 10M or so
Posted on 1/8/26 at 3:46 pm to Safety Blitz
Ask Coach Prime how that strategy is working out for him, u have to pay some HS players NIL to build depth can’t just pay 5 ?? guys and transfer guys, not sustainable for culture or long term

If they don’t look like Fournette, Pat P, Derek Stingley!

They have to pay it back if they decommit, if they signed with Bayou Traditions. It’s honestly what held this class together at the top & also why anybody committed to BK
