Do you respect or care at all what the “officiating analyst” on these broadcasts says?

Bill Lamagna is about the most useless sack of shite in sports broadcasting right next to that fat degenerate Bear that did the gambling bullshite on these games. I feel like the NFL officiating analyst does a better job but it’s still pretty awful

You could hear the resentment in Fowler's voice, every time he was speaking to him.
They also agree with the call on the field 105% of the time.

What I find funny is that most of them will give their opinion, ref comes back from replay and disagrees, then the analyst changes his mind.

For the NFL, I think Mike Pereira and Gene Steratore are good. For CFB, they all stink.

Opinions are like assholes, but what I like when they clearly articulate what the applicable rule is. That’s more helpful than seeing the same replay 20 times while the commentators go off on tangents that may or may not have anything to do with the application of the rule.

Overused. And some, including last night are just annoying in their delivery.

Terry McCauley is good, also

Agree with this. They both discuss the play, talk about the rules that they would consider, and discuss how they would handle. If the official calls it a different way; they don't just blindly agree but will usually defend the ref and try to explain why the ref disagreed. I have seen Gene say the ref got it wrong 2-3 times, and why.
The college ones are terrible. They try to do the above, but stumble over themselves overexplaining something. And even when it's obvious, try to twist it to "stand" unless the play is officially reversed.

99% of people these days cannot objectively watch a football game either.

No. The networks put them on there to help the public understand what the refs were doing and all they do is contradict themselves at every turn. Targeting, launching, and defenseless player is the most obscure penalty in sports. 100% judgement. 0 consistency. And the result is a guy getting ejected. It needs to be like a Flagrant Foul in basketball. Has to be levels to it.

Whichever one was on the broadcast with Fowler last night was terrible. He absolutely is a “yes man” afraid or unable to offer objective thoughts.
Gene Steratore as someone else mentioned actually provides value imo. Gene will flat out say an official got it wrong, and then explain the why behind it.

No all they do is run cover for the officials.

I always grumble about this position, it is a waste of money to pay someone to have this role.

No respect or need for their useless analysis.

For things like if it was a catch or not they are pretty worthless, but every once in a while there is a unique scenario where they are useful.
I much rather have ACC style replay where the discussions are broadcast. The EPL releases some VAR discussions and I think it is really helpful to see what they are looking at when they look at VAR, not only for the transparency of it but from a strictly knowledge perspective.

Complete waste of money

The thing the ACC does where they give you the ref audio during the review is awesome.
ZERO chance the bigger conferences or NCAA as a whole adopt it though.

My All-time favorite.
This is also proof IMO that the TV guys can here what the refs are communicating.
For the record...Tennessee was NOT offsides and Missouri went on to win the East division that year.
