Every state has some, share your oddball history.

Oklahoma:

In 1959, a cement mixer with a full load of cement, wrecked near Winganon, Oklahoma.

By the time a tow truck came to haul it away, all of the cement had hardened inside of the mixer.

The tow truck was not able to remove all the wreckage at the same time because of the weight, and decided to haul only the cab/frame, and would come back for the detached mixer later - which never happened.

Today, 66 years later, it still sits where it fell.

Locals have painted it and added "rocket thrusters" to make it look like a space capsule.

Kentucky still has an active law on the books from the 1800s that you cannot carry an ice cream cone in your pocket.

New Orleans Mob Boss Carlos Marcello used to have those he had murdered emulsified in a 50 gallon drum and dump the bio-sludge into the swamp.

On January 29, 1985 the largest baby in Louisiana was born. He was 15 pounds 14 ounces. His momma named him Herman Johnson.

If you flattened out the mountains it would more than double in size and be approximately the size of Alabama.

Georgia is known as the peach state. Peachtree Streets in every nook and cranny in Atlanta.
These are named after Standing Peachtree. A Fort along the Chattahoochee River (present day Atlanta water works near Bolton Rd/Marietta St/etc). Peachtree Creek as well is named after it just North of the location
The problem is, Peachtree is a bastardization of “Pitch Tree”, what the natives in the area would use to define a boundary and/or major trail crossing. The modern roads still follow the path of those trails.

There were no Peach trees anywhere in the area. Zero evidence of any peach orchards.

New Orleans’ West Bank is East and South of the city.

Ruth the duck lady in FQ would walk her ducks sometimes on leashes throughout the quarter, while wearing wedding dress and rolling skates. She cursed like a sailor.

Ohio and Michigan got in a "war" over the northwestern portion of Ohio that includes Toledo.

Ohio eventually got the land and Michigan got the UP.

The 1991 Louisiana Governor's run-off election was a choice between a convicted felon and the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan - Edwin Edwards versus David Duke. It was greatly entertaining. When Duke was confronted about his racist views he claimed to be a born-again Christian who renounced racism and anti-Semitism. The Jewish anti-defamation league distributed bumper stickers that read "Vote for the Lizard, not the Wizard", and 'Vote for the Crook. It's Important." The felon won, and proceeded to place the State's insurance and retirement business in the hands of entities controlled by the mob.

The Superdome was built on top of the Girod Cemetery and remains were moved to Hope Mausoleum Canal to move the build forward.

Not my state, but if you’re driving I-85 in Alabama south of Evergreen you might see a “Murder Creek” on a sign.

It’s actually named for murders that occurred at that creek, where a group of travelers to Pensacola was ambushed in 1788.
