Wife bought one last week.
I guess they thought since they already made fillings and had a working bakery, that they could pull this kind of thing off.
They cannot.

I heard the same thing from last year. I am bummed tho, that it appears Zuppardos is not doing Oak Point this year.

It wasn't good last year either. Guess they are just throwing it out there in hopes to sell it on the name.

Just watched some guy do a few ratings à la Portnoy and he gave Hubig’s the lowest (5). Kingcake mafia or something like that was his name
Surprisingly Loblolly in Hattiesburg had the highest rating (9.7)

Really? I had one shipped to Baton Rouge last year and I thought it was really good.
I got the custard filled one bc I really miss their custard pies

Wife and I bought a traditional cinnamon, non-filled Hubig's king cake this weekend. We both had the same opinion: it's nothing special, and is just a good version of those dried-out grocery store brand king cakes. It wasn't dry and it did not have the giant sugar crystals that I hate.

The only one I've had is the custard one ,and it was good. Would buy again

MIL brought one over last week. Didn't even realize they were making King Cakes. It was the traditional non filled. I wouldn't have been able to tell it apart from a basic grocery store one. Will definitely not get one again.

Ugh their name got me to buy one yesterday. Bought the plain one. Utterly trash.
Rouses King Cakes absolutely suck. Yet Hubigs is still much worse.

King Cake is overrated!
Usually I agree. But I had a Creme Goolee King Cake from Cannata's in Houma this weekend that was outstanding. Not too sweet, not just another doughnut or cinnamon roll type pastry with colored sugar. This was just a uniquely good king cake. Think it was the dough.
Try one. May change your opinion on them.

Try the king cakes at Small Cakes on Highland, right across the street from Ruffino's. Simply, the best I've ever eaten.. The Bavarian Cream is the bomb, for sure.

If rouses learned how to make a Randazzo style king cake, they would sell the shite out of it.

I can't imagine how nasty one of those would taste. Their niche is "D" shaped fried pies and those small round pies with a basic pie dough------not a fluffy rising dough, cinnamon infused pastry covered in a sweet semi-solid creamy icing.
