I know a lot of folks on this board also hunt in the SF area. Curious if y’all have already seen rut activity where you hunt or not? I know it’s usually the first week or so of January but I’ve seen very little to no movement at our place.

I'm between Cat Island and Angola Hwy. I'm seeing younger bucks actively chasing and cruising this week. The mature deer have disappeared from my cell cams, maybe they're locked down.

We hunt private land in Cat Island and north of Cat Island. Saw alot of rut activity, bucks chasing and on the move around December 30. I hunted with 3 others January 5-7. No one saw a deer. Maybe rut was early this year ?

LDWF says peak breeding in West Feliciana can range from December 6th to February 26th, that's breeding, not the chase. quote:
Hunters should remember that breeding periods vary annually and peak breeding times are not necessarily peak buck movement times. Bucks may be more active before or after peak breeding periods, but research has shown that peak buck movement is one to two weeks before peak breeding.
I have bucks chasing does in the day time on December 9th and spotted fawns on Christmas Eve right down the road, 4 miles apart at the same elevation. There is no magic answer, the more you hunt from December 20-January 10 the more success you will have.

Louisiana is a melting pot of Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Wisconsin whitetails. Just get on a stand when you can, it can happen on any given day.
