Israel to end US Military aid in 10 years

Twenty years after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged before the US Congress that Israel would wean itself off American economic aid, he said on Friday that he now wants to do the same with US military assistance.
“I want to taper off military aid within the next 10 years,” he said in an interview with The Economist, adding that he meant reducing it to zero from its current level of $3.8 billion a year.
If Netanyahu fulfills that pledge - as he did the earlier one - it would constitute nothing less than a revolution in US-Israeli ties. It would also reflect the internalization of one of the central lessons of the seven-front war that followed October 7: Israel must reduce its dependence on others for arms and munitions, even when those others are its closest allies.

First, the current framework governing US military aid to Israel - the Memorandum of Understanding negotiated in the final years of Barack Obama’s presidency - is set to expire in 2028. That agreement provides Israel with $3.8 billion annually over a 10-year period that began in 2019. With negotiations for a new MoU just underway, this is a propitious moment to signal that the next framework should be the last
Now just get the other ~190 countries we give money to, to do the same.

Just as a friend borrowing money would harm a friendship, another country being the charity recipient harms the relationship.
If two nations are independent, they can be stronger allies.
Our citizens are resentful of any nation who takes money from the United States, to the detriment of our own country.

Israel should spend its money on Israel only!
America should spend its money on Israel!

If a friend, a real friend that is, needed to borrow or more importantly you not offering to help then maybe the friendship is not what is really there. Money given shouldn’t be with the expectation of anything in return, but money lent is a different matter

The interview from my article source was conducted with the Economist on Friday (9JAN26). NBC and many other non Israeli sources have reported it.

I just think its unrealistic that Israel will cold turkey cut aid from their biggest partner... it would devastate their economy really.

No way they're going to give up free money. They'll lean on their AIPAC-purchased Congressmen to keep the spigot open......and they'll get it.

This is not a one-time thing. These are generational leaches. They are even saying they need 10 years to stop borrowing.

Why not today? In fact, why did we ever give them anything?

That’s business not friendship. The talk is that Israel is a friend or that we are their friends but it’s business as American foreign policy is at play here. American government wants a stable foothold hold in the region, Israel of course wants that protection but don’t kid yourself that America and more importantly its corporate interests aren’t served here. Israel is pretty good in what they develop in military, medical as well as special projects that don’t get the headlines and America gets access to that

I am seriously perplexed as to how he hasn't stroked out live on air multiple times. That dude lives in a perpetual state of triple-digit blood pressure numbers.

Except, they already did for non military aid, which is why I emphasized it in the original post. We dump far more money into liberal shitholes like NYC, MSP, and California, than we do to Israel. And that's due to marxist mismanagement and bullshite. We sent Ukraine five times more money than what we sent to Israel to buy F-35s from American companies in 2023, and we sent multiple countries like Sudan and Afghanistan (after we left!!!) more than a billion dollars a year.
