But I thought foreign companies would be paying the tariffs?
Kalshi has only 28% likelihood the admin wins their case. I hope that’s incorrect.

How do you think tariffs work in a competitive market?

Only a highly educated economist such as SFP and Roger can even begin to comprehend the depths of the tariff issue

Why would any sane person want the administration to lose? The chaos after a loss isn’t worth it. They have plenty of avenues they can pursue if these are struck down. It’s not like tariffs go away for good if they lose.

Only on the political talk can people argue that corporate taxes are paid by consumers but tariffs are paid by … someone else?
That square peg cannot be rounded.

Because tariffs are magic

If that's the case the American people will be the losers in all of this. The U.S. companies passed on the tariffs to us. So at the end of the day corporations made money on the deal. They passed the increased tariffs on and will be reimbursed.

And the prices won't go all the way back to pre-tariff levels. They may go down but the delta will be in favor of the companies.

I wonder how many companies who raised prices due to tariffs will lower them once they get refunded?
I’ll put the over/under at zero

Speaking of Roger, where is he. Did a polar bear eat him or something? (I hope not. That poor bear would have MASSIVE indigestion and might not survive)

There is a few provisions in code that will allow differently

There are backup plans for most of the tariffs, when we have signed agreements with countries, those should stand, etc. Other regulations allow tariffs. The ruling may only be going forward not backwards.

what is this straw man?
Tariffs are supposed to drive inflation way up. That has not happened yet.
So the corporations will get the benefit and not the "people"?

Yet if you step back you would find that the people who oppose the tariffs want much higher corporate income taxes. They have no concern that those additional burdens will be passed on to the consumer.
The right much more readily acknowledges that all the costs of a business are ultimately paid by the consumer.

I don't deny that tariffs are eventually paid by the consumer.
My argument is that tariffs are a superior system to the income tax system. We need to abolish the income tax system and go to a consumer tax system.
