I wonder when Lane began to think about the LSU job?

I've heard some say last year but not so sure about that. Thoughts? Thanks!

Probably when Les was fired and Saban sent him to FAU to complete his rehibition.

Around the time he was OC at Alabama

He wanted it the last time it was opened but Scott said no

I met Lane in the superdome at the high school championships in the suites. The LSU job was open since Saban was leaving. Orgeron was introducing him to boosters saying I will be his DL coach and we will sign everyone in state. He was right we should have done it. But we hired Miles.
Then Orgeron was bringing him in as OC but Saban nixed it and Lane got the HC job.
When Orgeron was fired but still coaching Kiffin wanted the job but Woodward hired Kelly.
So he probably wanted this job for decades.

This is my guess. Saban became his mentor and probably being around him all the time he realized how much Saban regretted leaving LSU. I think it intrigued him. Then also experiencing Tiger Stadium on the Bama sidelines. I was surprised he didnt up being Coach O's OC but I think he didnt want to work under O and wanted to be a head coach.

At least before LSU hired Kelly.

There are reports that he wanted the job when we hired BK but Woodard didn't want him.

Woody would be here today and LSU would likely have had 3 CFP appearances with a natty by now if he had the vision to have hired LK.
Woody is now a 2nd time failed AD (A&M) and a footnote in LSU history.

You know I really thought we had made the right move when we hired. Scott Woodward but hearing this and I really do believe it. It really makes me even more angrier with him. I mean there's many things you get angry with Scott Woodward about especially our basketball program. But knowing that Lane kiffin wanted to come here and he was a gansit really really bothers me as a fan

Who knows but he did mention the crowd and electricity in the 2024 game. And, how great it would be to play here.
