Trump outlines healthcare plan

President Donald Trump on Thursday rolled out the broad outline of a health-care plan that the White House claims will lower drug prices and insurance premiums.
The announcement came as a congressional effort to extend key Affordable Care Act tax credits faces headwinds from Senate Republicans, leaving millions at risk of seeing their health insurance premiums spike.
The Trump administration dubbed the initiative “The Great Healthcare Plan,” the president said in a video unveiling the policy Thursday morning.
“I’m calling on Congress to pass this framework into law without delay,” Trump said. “Have to do it right now.”
The plan would codify the deals Trump recently struck with major drugmakers to slash the cost of certain prescription drugs in the U.S. by pegging them to lower prices abroad, as part of his “most-favored-nation” policy.
More than a dozen pharmaceutical companies agreed to lower prices on certain products for Medicaid patients in exchange for a three-year exemption from tariffs.
As part of those deals, companies also agreed to sell some medicines at a discount on Trump’s direct-to-consumer platform, Trump Rx.
Trump, in his video announcement, said those lower drug prices will take effect on the platform when it launches this month. He claimed that those prices would plunge by as much as 500%, even though that would mean prices would fall far below $0.
The health-care framework would “make more verified safe pharmaceutical drugs available for over-the-counter purchase,” according to a White House fact sheet.
It would also purportedly send money for health insurance coverage “directly to the American people” instead of giving “big insurance companies billions in extra taxpayer-funded subsidy payments,” the fact sheet says. Trump has repeatedly floated similar proposals in recent remarks.
The plan would additionally “fund a cost-sharing reduction program,” which the administration says would “reduce the most common Obamacare plan premiums by over 10%.”
Other components of the policy include requiring health insurers to prominently post coverage comparisons “in plain English” on their websites, along with other information about overhead costs and claim denial rates.
It would also require providers who accept either Medicare or Medicaid “to publicly and prominently post their pricing and fees to avoid surprise medical bills.”

We’re at a point where it really can’t get worse. If it gets any more expensive it will collapse. It’s already not worth it.

'Risks of seeing a spike'. If they spike us any further we will all need a proctologist.

The ACA is just unfixable

Cost of healthcare is the biggest risk to all middle income people in America.

Is it possible to create health insurance pools within states and communities for individuals that can’t purchase health insurance through their workplace? In other words if you have 5000 people in Birmingham who are forced to buy health insurance on the open market, why treat them as individual buyers? Pool them all together like you would a large company and offer competitive rates. This non sense of forcing people to pay 4 5 or 600 dollars or more a month with ridiculous deductibles for an insurance plan because they are an individual needs to end.

Can someone explain the concept of sending the money straight to the consumer instead of the insurance company?

Need to lower Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates too.
Force hospitals to cut admin staff jobs.
Cut pay across the board.

This does not matter if I cannot buy the policy I need or want. Trump needs to introduce freedom back into the market, especially the individual market.
I need to be able to buy a true catastrophic policy without the ACA mandates.

I can make it really simple: the American people should have the same coverage as Congress. You can bet your arse things would be different if these scumbags had to stoop down to our levels.

“The Great Healthcare Plan,”
No more pumping billions to Insurance Carriers as they show record profits.
Any profit should be returned until they pay back the government

They should’ve done all this shite before the ‘26 subsidies ran out and jacked everyone’s coverage up
They’re all so worthless . Pisses me off

Does it allow us to buy insurance across state lines

If they would tackle the real problem of health insurance, a lot of this would fix itself.
The health insurance industry needs a total rebuild, but they are the largest Washington DC lobby so aint nothing ever going to change with them.

Don't know. The article said it's an outline so it's sparse on details.

At the risk of writing a book, I can tell you that this has already happened & was a brutally difficult adjustment for most medical groups. Even top quartile performing hospitals have been running a negative profit margin the last few years according to MGMA & the HFMA.
What happened is that the CMS table reimbursement decreased several years in a row under Biden. The wRVU credit received for many routine procedures also INCREASED, (by 25%+ in Primary Care, Psych, and Surg Oncology) meaning that providers compensated on a production basis (wRVUs) are now earning massive bonuses.
While compensation plans have tried to adjust, there's not much incentive for physicians to sign new, crappie employment agreements. And health systems, already dealing with constant physician shortages, don't really have the cards to say "sign the new contract or else"
Provider salaries dwarf admin staff, there is simply not as much fat to cut as you're thinking. Hospitals are small potatoes in the overall Healthcare industry.
Insurance & pharma companies are who you're looking for

There ACA clones available right now that are less expensive than ACA plans because they are underwritten.

Without opening up competition, like auto insurance, across state lines we will never see lower premiums.
