BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU students are facing a surge of artificial intelligence cheating allegations that has created a significant backlog at the university’s Student Advocacy and Accountability Board, according to documents obtained by WAFB and student accounts.
One LSU student, who asked to be identified only as Sarah, said she received a zero on an assignment after her professor determined it was “AI written.” “I went to go check my grades, and I saw that I had a zero. So I went, and I checked to see her notes, and my teacher completely scratched all of it out and said that it was 93% AI written,” Sarah said.
Sarah said she and her friend were not the only students in the class to receive AI allegations.
“So, then I turn to the other people in my class, and they’re like, yeah, we got zeroes on it. We don’t know what’s happening. We email her. She emails us back and says she’s reported us to SAA,” Sarah said.

Crazy idea but maybe go back to written assignments in class

My nephew teaches HS English and they are requiring all assignments to be handwritten. Doesn't eliminate the risk of AI completely but at least they have to put some physical effort into it.

Just pay a smart person to actually write it like the good old days.

Don't cheat. Don't use Grammerly either.

I never would have thought this would happen

My son is in high school and wrote a paper. I saw him write it, I know the work was his. He even asked me my opinion on how to word various things.
When he turned it in his teacher used some AI program to predict if AI was used and it said it was AI generated.
Whatever program was used was 100% wrong. I don’t trust them and believe some of these kids may be getting screwed.

Those shitty AI detection sites will also mark things written by intelligent people who use proper grammar as likely AI written

He just advised them to drop the class because he wasn’t going to budge at all. His score on that professors rating site took a slight hit

Pre-AI as an undergrad I had a professor call me to her office and accuse me of plagiarism. I assured her I was actually an intelligent person capable of producing such a product on my own, and that was the end of that. Cream does indeed rise to the top.

I used to take 2 extras for exams and give them to the Prof in case anyone suddenly realized they didn't have one.

They need to adapt.
But I bet these kids are using ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, etc in its most basic form and they are all turning in essays, etc that are similar to each other.
You have to let it adapt to you and create a project (in ChatGPT) where you will used for writing essays (or whatever) then feed it essays you actually wrote so it can learn your style of writing, words you are likely to used, etc. Then ask it if it can help you write an essay on _____ and that you want to generate an outline first. Tell it all the things that you need it to cover.
Then tell it you want to start off with ____. Give it the information you want it to cover, tell it you want it detailed and written in your style of writing.
They are probably doing it to quickly generate an essay, but if you actually do it right it will still take less time than if you were writing it out on your own and have it done as if you wrote it without using anything.

But does he have a social security number? That’s the question

If these professors are using "AI checkers" then they're stupid too. They're snake oil.
With that said, tons of kids are actually cheating with AI. It's sad. It cripples your mind and creativity. Who wants to read some slop put together by a machine?

I just enrolled at ASU in their online MSEE program and I had to watch a 30 min presentation on Academic Integrity with most of it dealing with AI.

I had an engineering professor give me a 50% on a homework assignment because he said I copied from Chegg. Luckily, I had multiple pages of scratch work in my bag where I had tried different methods until I figured out the right answer. My broke arse couldn't afford a Chegg subscription in college anyway

If they could only learn to play football. Or any other sports.

Sometimes professors don’t like when the student is smarter than them.
