Has there ever been another HS football program that has permeated the zeitgeist like this one?

They haven't won a state championship in 35 years and people still talk about them to this day.

Do you think they'll ever rise again?

Too transient of town these days

Oil crashes and general shittiness to live killed the natives. It’s a great place to make money for awhile then GTFO

West Texas cotton field to oil hand played a role too

I mean the only reason people talk is because of Bissinger’s book. But there’s other programs in Texas that have surpassed them.

Start with Southlake Carroll

Rise?

They had a great year this year going 11-2 and losing to Allen (who made it to the semis) in the playoffs so, yeah, they have a chance...but that conference/division is stacked.

Are they in the same district as West Canaan?

The money and athletes in the area are also never going to end up at Permian now. Odessa is like 40-50% Hispanic and pretty poor, not a winning recipe when it comes to high school football success in large school classifications

Kind of sounds like Notre Dame.

they will never be revalent again. just like my alma mater plano. plano beat permian this year and they were not good. it was a great story and they churned out some great teams. region 1 now goes to dallas and region 1 is not good. tells you the population is drying up.

A book that 80% of the people who loved the movie to this day have never heard of?

The book didn't make it famous. The movie did.

If they’ve seen the movie then technically they have heard of the book but more importantly without the book, the movie doesn’t happen
