nick saban knew how good cig was all along and refused to promote him out of fear for his own accolades. he forced him to reset his career in his 50s, knowing he wouldn’t have the time to break his records. now he and his buddy finebaum do everything possible to go against him

He was on staff at Alabama with Nick Saban. It was his last major conference job before going down to lower ranks to get a shot.
None of the other schools he did stints at hired a coach that year.

You think saban forgot about him? They’re both tied to bumbfrick, West Virginia and Cignetti won big in lower ranks. It was a huge fail, but their inbred fanbase would have freaked out hiring him.

DeBoer was 25–3 in two years at Washington and was coming off a national title game appearance. There isn’t an AD on earth who would have hired Cignetti over him.

A huge fail? Nah. I don't think so. Aside from the fact that Indiana hired Cignetti before Saban retired, the dude was not an option. Also...let's wait and see if lightning strikes twice in Indiana.

Had he recommended Cignetti, they’d have given him a look. And had they offered him, he’d have bailed in Indiana a month in.
I’d say it already struck twice. His first year was one of the best immediate turnarounds ever and he was AP COY. His second was a legendary National title run.
Let us not forget DeBoer took Indianas prized QB after 2021, which is the main reason Indiana had an opening for Cignetti. They fell apart when Pennix left after starting to win with him. They never recovered.

Nah, we never heard of him. But nick saban and Alabama knew him well.
True story. Kirk Ferentz coached at Iowa on the OL from 81-89, then left for the NFL. When Hayden Fry retired in 1998, he told Bob Bowlsby he should call Ferentz and he would be a good fit to come coach Iowa. He was OL coach for the ravens at the time and nobody had a clue who he was. Fans were irate at the hire. Turned out Fry remembered him well.

It is if you ignore the fact that this wouldn't have been possible five years ago. With the transfer portal, NIL, and the super seniors from the COVID era, those things combined to create a perfect storm that Cignetti ingeniously took advantage of. People are fixated with the fact that this happened at Indiana, a lowly school that hadn't won anything of note up until now. But they are forgetting that College Football, as we know it, changed in 2021. The timeline has been completely reset because the standard rules that governed the game for the last 100 years or so no longer apply.

He didn’t take that job because it was his one shot. He took it because his dad coached there and the place was very special to him. People act like Cig was down to a chip and a chair and batted back to win WSOP. He was always a winner he just took a path that wasn’t the beaten road

Is that why he went to Elon, who had 6 straight losing seasons, after IUP instead of back to being an assistant at a major program? And then to James Madison before getting a shot at a major program?
Saban had this guy buried as a WR coach and recruiting coordinator his entire time with him, working under genius Major Applewhite and retard Jim McElwain. It was probably clear to Cignetti that he needed to carve his own path to get out from under the boot of people that couldn’t see his talent.

Cig knew be was being shite down by Saban. That's why they don't get along. I'm sure he was viewed as a recruiting guy type and nothing close to a coordinator or HC level by Saban.
But... Some of us knew as soon as he got hired at Indiana. And Some had no clue and called him old.
