Pounding michelob ultras, rubbing shoulders with Jimmy Ott and Hanny, and exploring the Belle

Watching track highlights of Xavier Carter and Ryan Perrilloux shred some schmucks

The NCAA took this away from us. Sad!

This brings back great memories! For many years I so looked forward to the "Bayou Bash" Great times, great environment, and enjoyed the "silent auction items". My most prized possession was acquiring the American flag flown over our Nation's Capitol commemorating the 2003 BCS National Championship.

The coaches wanted an early signing day....so the NCAA gave it to them.

Plus, the proliferation of information made it less intriguing. When it started in 1995 there was no wide-spread use of the internet. There was minimal coverage of recruiting. Players weren't publicly "committing" before signing day. Thus, there was intrigue on NSD. Who was going to sign? Who is this guy? What are his numbers? etc, etc,

That changed as the internet became more widespread, the recruiting sites grew, and more information was available. NSD was becoming more of an anti-climactic formality (though there was still a few NSD decisions that made it interesting)

there is no way really to do all of these things:
1) finish the CFB playoffs earlier than mid-late January
2) establish a portal window that accommodates the end of the regular season and playoffs for all teams
3) have a signing period in February
4) finish the NFL season

AND ensure that coaches are going to be where recruits and signees think they'll be

something is always going to have to give. signing day is one of those ultimately low priority things, despite our school / fan base's preference to have a bash

Hanny making little innuendos about recruits because he can't name them directly.

I never attended, but I always looked forward to listening on my home from work and talking about it throughout the day..

Everyone I ever talked to who had gone before or went every year talked about how much they enjoyed it and I always thought to myself "one year I am going to go".. A lesson in life.. don't assume something will always be there.

In the old fieldhouse next to the natatorium. 11 year old me went and met Gerry DiNardo and then the guy who played Mike The Tiger was an old friend of my cousins and he took me to the PMAC to meet Dale Brown and the basketball team.

Core memory.

Actually Brian Kelly dumped us- The Tiger Gridiron club. Said he “didn’t have anything like it at notre Dame and doesn’t need it at LSU”.
It is quite possible we could have had it early December at the early signing period.
The Gridiron club founded the bash and out it on each year.

The Bayou Bash raised money for LSU football and 100% of it went to LSU football.
Even though the money we raised is a small amount compared to today’s football budget, NCAA rules allowed for the Gridiron funds to pay for items that LSU isn’t allowed to pay for. It’s complicated.
I can’t say all what it paid for but some was fir additional recruiting meals- all acceptable under the rules. We also helped with the football camps.
