“Our state will always stand firm in safeguarding New Yorkers' freedoms and right to bodily autonomy, which includes the right for the terminally ill to peacefully and comfortably end their lives with dignity and compassion,” said Gov. Hochul. “This journey was deeply personal for me. Witnessing my mother's suffering from ALS was an excruciating experience, knowing there was nothing I could do to alleviate the pain of someone I loved. It took years of intimate discussions with our bill sponsors, health experts, advocates, and most importantly, families who have similar firsthand experiences. New Yorkers deserve the choice to endure less suffering, not by shortening their lives, but by shortening their deaths — I firmly believe we made the right decision.”

Man they love making death as easy as possible.

Mamdani is already taking care of assisted dying with his criminal reform and commitment to protecting illegal murderers.

Are we upset about this? Ever watched a loved one die of cancer slowly?

Yes. If two doctors agree that the patient has less than 6 months to live, they are given hospice care. The above law might include those who are having mental issues. It's still their right but is it really a good idea? Could it be misused just as children who are coerced into transgenderism? Are there age limits?

It sounds like hospice requirements.

AI:
will sign the Medical Aid in Dying Act (S138/A136), which allows terminally ill adults aged 18 or older to self-administer prescribed medication to end their lives. The law requires a 6-month terminal prognosis, mental competency, and additional safeguards, including a 5-day waiting period, a video request, and a mental health exam.

Key details regarding the Medical Aid in Dying Act include:
Age Limit: The legislation applies to adults who are 18 years of age or older.

Eligibility: Patients must have a medically confirmed, incurable, and irreversible terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less to live.

Process & Safeguards:
Capacity: Patients must be mentally capable of making an informed healthcare decision.

Documentation: Requires both written and oral requests, with the oral request recorded on audio or video.

Physician Approval: Two physicians must confirm the terminal diagnosis and competency.

Waiting Period: A 5-day waiting period is required before the prescription can be filled.

Implementation: The law is set to go into effect six months after signing.

So, does your insurance pay if you get yourself suicided? Probably not. The doctor that does it will want at least $100K

It’s horrific. I can’t imagine anyone who has wouldn’t support an act of mercy such as this. As long as the system has the necessary guard rails, I’m all for it.

Slippery slope is real. See other country's progression once this option is on the table is normalized.

This has nothing to do with "medical freedom" and everything to do with allowing hospitals to deny you care.

See: Canada, UK

What's the criteria for this. I told my wife and kids. If I am bedridden for more than 2 days in pain or suffer from a stroke, dementia, Alzheimer's or cancer, put me down!!
