Hundreds of years? Thousands of years?

I saw an analysis that put it in the high 30s.

Almost as many times as John Wayne said "Pilgrim" in the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". Something like 24 or 25 times in the movie.

I think I remember reading on here that deleted scenes would have put him at over a thousand years

I was shocked when I looked that up a while back and it is analyzed/theorized that it was 33 years 350 days.
Totally changes how you feel about that movie and what he goes through

Decades for sure. Takes a long time to get so good at piano, throwing cards, ice sculpting, etc. Plus lots of days fricking around and dying

The writer has said his original idea was on the magnitude of thousands of years. He said he never said 10,000 years, but he liked that idea. He had Buddhist undertones of reincarnation and it taking that long to become a perfect soul. The studio wanted several weeks. Ramis made it 30-40 years for the final cut.
There was a scene written where Phil would go to a bookshelf in the bed and breakfast and read one page from one book every day. He completes the bookshelf several times.

That pool clip is giving Ernie McCracken vibes.

How many times did it reset or how many years total spent in the loop?

I remember an article that put it in the low thousands based on his pursuit and mastery of so many things

I think people are over thinking this, because they want to overthink it
1) After a week of trying to get out of town, he didnt waste time on that trip
2) Once he learned the piano, he never spent much time on the piano
3) Once he learned everyones story in the diner, he didnt have to go back to the dinner
4) He likely stopped trying to kill himself after about 10 attempts
5) Dated Nancy Taylor maybe a few weeks, because he knew how to repeat that magic day forever
He was essentially a computer database. Pong originated in 1972, and in 2026 we have Ai
Bill Murray was trapped in a much smaller learning environment than what the vastness of technology has seen in 50+ years
Plus, he didnt just do just one thing a day, he did multiple. He likely learned the piano, read books, learned french, and did ice sculpting all in the same purposeless day. And developed these skills all within a decade. He could even stop eating, and spend time on something else, because he woke up with the same health as the day before
I'm thinking 2 decades top. The key was arranging his day to find the one thing that would set him free. Ramis said his thought was Bill Murray was trapped a decade
