The commentators explanation was so on point. Not having anyone around when taking FTs can definitely mess your rhythm, both throws hit the rim, one got a friendly roll the other didn't. Interesting observation and cool that they caught it.

Yep. That’s exactly why I’m a 50% free throw shooter when I’m practicing on the empty court in the church parking lot.

There was a strange delay by the officials just before he shot which seemed to ice him.

To be fair, they gave him the ball then took it away 3 or 4 times before they let him shoot.

Really dumb play by the Ole Miss player, one you never really see which probably confused the officials. Same actual result, but they weren't sure if it was a technical or intentional foul since the ball had not even been handed to the inbounder.

Yeah, I like the NBA rule, if its a genuine foul its 1 shot and ball back. If it is a foul like last night then you can call intentional and get two shots and ball back. That way you are punished either way for fouling before the ball is inbounded. Keeps the game moving.

Lack of other players in peripheral vision is something a shooter kinda bakes in, and when it's suddenly missing, it's a distraction. Not to mention the OM fans booing their asses off, and the refs giving him the ball, giving it back, taking it away, walking around and talking to each other before letting him shoot was also a distraction.

I think one of the delays may have been because they were still blaring music over the PA when Max was handed the ball

bullshite, you telling me everytime he practices FTs he has 6 grown men standing in FT shooting position? He just missed.

I’d be willing to bet if he shot 100 with players there 100 without players it be pretty close even.
