Very small sample size. But looks promising that Schmidt could be making similar strides as Anderson did last year in progression from freshman to sophomore star.
Through their first three starts of season:
Schmidt, 2026:
1.65 ERA, 16.1 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 4 BB 25 Ks
Anderson, 2025:
2.30 ERA, 15.2 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 6 BB, 26 Ks

Better than I would have guessed. Thanks

I made the comp before the season. They had fairly similar freshman campaigns. They both basically dominated midweek. They both struggled in SEC play. Anderson obviously made the jump sophomore year. Yet to be seen if Schmidt can do the same, but those stats are encouraging. His last couple outings have been really good. Long way to go to get to where Anderson was, but honestly we don't need that this year (though I'd love for it to happen). If he can keep developing to his potential he's gonna be really good.

Jay even told the reporters in the post game to look at Evens stats vs Andersons last year….

Someone did the homework assignment Jay gave at the press conference

Now it's time for evans to take that same step

Yeskie knows how to develop pitchers and teach them new pitches.

LSU won the NC last year with basically 2 dominant starters, 2 good RPs, and one RP (Shores) who came at the end. Those 5 three 95% of the innings in the CWS. IIRC, LSU had only 4 reliable pitchers last season.
If LSU is looking to repeat that formula this year it seems like they are off to a decent start
