NATO shot it down? WTF does that mean? Did Turkey shoot it down, the U.S., or who?

Just in case anyone was still wondering, Iran wants to make sure the entire world knows Trump was right about them.

I wonder what else Trump is right about…

Yeah I have no idea why people word it like that. I assume they’re hoping Article V gets invoked or something.

I’m sure NATO is already proofing their strongly worded letter for gender bias as we speak!

I don’t think these people in here understand that NATO has its own equipment and bases and that personnel at bases is a mixture of all member nations. Being where it is, NATO has a large presence in Turkey, including a lot of anti-air/anti-missile equipment

Personnel from all member countries are designated for certain NATO forces. There are many NATO designated bases around the world, mostly on the same land as a members base, that could have troops from up to 30+ countries in it. It’s not like a certain NATO base is just made up of US or Turkey or German, etc, troops

NATO is made up of 30+ countries that all provide equipement, personnel and finances each year. NATO forces are over 3M worldwide and they have like a $1T budget

Does the alliance own any air defense missiles?

yes

quote:

NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence (NATO IAMD) is a continuous, 24/7 mission that protects Alliance populations, territory, and forces against the full spectrum of air and missile threats, including aircraft, drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic/hypersonic missiles. It integrates sensors, command-and-control, and weapons systems (like Patriots, SAMP/T, and fighters) across Allied nations to provide a unified defense.

Oh yea. Most definitely. It’s why Russia doesn’t want Ukraine to be a part of NATO and gets pissed whenever NaTO nations near them, put up defensive missile sites

I edited my previous post to add more clarity

NATO is about the equivalent of the US armed forces in terms of personnel, equipment, budget, etc

I’m gonna give you this one I guess. NATO itself appears to own a fleet of E-3 AWACS planes and some surveillance drones. But they don’t own or operate any air defense missiles. So it’s possible that a NATO AWACS detected the incoming missile it was shot down by “NATO.” Of course it’s also possible the NATO AWACS wasn’t involved at all. But I have seen NATO E-3s operating in western turkey the past few weeks on flightradar24.
