VATICAN CITY, March 4 (Reuters) - The Vatican's top diplomat warned on Wednesday that the ongoing U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran undermine international law and ?said nations do not have a right to launch "preventive wars", ?in an unusually direct criticism of the military campaign.

"If states were to be recognised as having a right to 'preventive war' … the entire world could risk going ?up in flames," Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's Secretary of ?State, said in an interview with Vatican News.

They should be more worried about fixing the internal issue of their priests molesting kids. Kick rocks, Vatican City!

They should clean up their own house before they dare look out to comment on anyone or anything.

I thought the term "preventive wars" was more interesting than international law angle. I asked Grok:

quote:

Preventive wars are controversial and often considered aggressive or illegal under modern international law (e.g., UN Charter rules on the use of force), because they rely on speculation about future intentions and capabilities rather than concrete evidence of an impending attack.

Historical examples include:

Sparta's decision to go to war against Athens in the Peloponnesian War (431–404 BCE), driven by fear of Athens' rising power (as described by Thucydides).

Rome's Third Punic War (149–146 BCE) against Carthage, launched partly out of concern over Carthage's growing prosperity despite no immediate threat.

Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, sometimes interpreted as preventive (to neutralize U.S. Pacific power before it could fully mobilize against Japan).

The 2003 Iraq War, which some analysts and critics labeled as preventive (to prevent a future threat from a presumed WMD-armed Iraq), though the Bush administration often presented it in preemptive terms.

What did international law do to stop Iran from kidnapping our citizens? or killing them in terrorist acts?
