Artemis astronauts asks permission to use the toilet.

I shite you not. I'm watching the live broadcast on NASA's Atemis 2 flight to the moon, and the astronaut asked NASA if it was okay to poop, not piss, in the toilet. They did, of course, refer to it as 'fecal' and 'urine'.
The NASA engineer said that he'd check on it. Came back a half minute later with "Fire away!"
jk - he said "fecal was okay". The soon-to-be relieved astronaut was all "roger that!" happy!
I am amazed that this was not discussed long before now. If they did not already know the answer to a simple question about whether or not they can deliver a deuce into a toilet, then wtf big, important shite do they NOT know? Is this group prepared?

Man, I’d bet it would be a real drag to get a sudden case of diarrhea up there

There was an issue with the toilet 1-2 days ago and it couldn’t separate the piss from the shite like it’s supposed to. They had to go in bags for a while. Sounds like he was just confirming if it was safe to use it again.

They’re floating in deep space 200k miles away from earth and have to eject anything in the toilet out of a portal into said deep space. They’re not just pushing a fricking handle like you are at home. One crack in that system and they’re toast.

No worries. They have a couple of these cans:

They also had a burning smell coming from the "lunar loo" and ground told them it was likely some orange insulation around the door. You could get just the hint of frustration in the reply that I heard as the mission speak version of "it ain't the frickin' insulation".

If we can’t efficiently eliminate our own waste in space while executing missions to advance mankind, should we even try?
