Have you ever put others first according to your beliefs?

As I’ve gotten older I’ve fallen on my beliefs, that even when there’s conflict in my relationship with my SO I should consider her first. I’ve learned this from my upbringing.
It doesn’t always seem to work out, however, and it disappoints me.
Would appreciate input.

Humility should never disappoint you.
Pride however doesn't much like humility and will tell you so.

one thing that my dad has always told me is that when having a disagreement with your significant other you should consider how important the issue is to you. If it's a minor deal to you and a major deal to them why not just concede?
I always try to treat others how I think they would want to be treated.

When arguing with spouse, you should always take a moment and understand their side and try to make the argument for them better.
You do this, so there is no loser in the argument. The only thing that comes from winning an argument with a spouse, is the realization you are with a loser.

God, others, self. In that order. Always. It is in giving that we receive.

Amen. Even if we don’t like the results I trust there’s a lesson there for me. Thank you bro

You have to give up any expectation of reciprocity, conscious or unconscious.

How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game

Yes, it only took me 42 years and a near death experience to realize that I’m just not as important as I used to think I was. 99% of the time putting others before yourself goes unnoticed and unappreciated, but it’s amazing how much peace it brings to life.

My toast to our youngest daughter and her new husband was “There will be disagreements but remember, someone doesn’t always have to be right. To help you achieve that never miss a good chance to shut up.”

Helping others helps bring purpose and meaning in life. A lot of times when people are feeling down, it's because they're so focused on themselves and their own problems.
When you go out of your way to help others in need, it helps you appreciate your own blessings and fosters an attitude of gratitude.
It's also a core teaching of most major religions that charity is a virtue.

"Winning" an argument with your spouse is never winning.

You're right honey, you need a new Tahoe AT4. We can wait to save for college in another couple of years.
