Anyone else been diagnosed with this as an adult?
If so, have you gone on meds.
I’m having a realization of the way my mind works which is equal parts relief and frustration.
I’m hesitant to start medication in my 40s as I’m fairly successful in my career but it’s been tiring fighting this battle.
What are your experiences with starting Adderall or other non stimulants later in life?

You have managed this long without
Are you falling behind?

Try cognitive behavioral therapy BEFORE you take any meds. You’ll regret taking adderall or the like.

My wife is a Clinical Psychotherapist. Many high performing professionals are ADHD. Both of our kids are very high IQ, but with ADHD brains.
Her approach is to not alleviate the traits, but to focus them in a way that it becomes an asset. It's her specialty. She works with kids but more and more adults are seeing her.
I would seek one that specializes in high performing adults.

I won’t ask who she is, but where is she located?
The initial diagnosis for me came from researching issuesthat my daughter was having and getting a diagnosis from her therapist as having high IQADHD.
As I’m doing the research, I was like damn this is what I’ve always experienced, but didn’t realize it was different than everybody else.

I’m fairly successful in my career but it’s been tiring fighting this battle.
Everyone fights battles. I overcome mine by doing simple stuff, like entering a dentist appointment into my calendar before I walk away from the office, etc. I would write an email that looked like War and Peace, but I trained myself to let it sit, and go back to cut it town to four sentences, and things like that.
It exhibits itself in non work verbal interactions, too. My brain has this weird way of finding associations between things that don't seem to be linked (black holes and Memorial day, for instance,) and I inject these weird leaps in conversations that other people can't follow. I just warn people in social situations that might get deep (girlfriends, etc.) what may happen, so they don't think I'm on hard drugs.
Be warned the Adderall will also start making you more tolerant to its active ingredient, requiring higher doses. First day I took it, I completed more home improvement projects than I had done in the previous three months. Within 2 weeks I didn't feel anything abnormal, except for crushing thirst. I would drink 3/4 of a gallon of water in an hour and still want more.

yes i am diagnosed with it
i just deal and i cant take the drugs, especially adderall. they make me black out and literally forget days. not good for me at all.
i just medicate mainly with caffeine and finding other ways to just deal.
it does drive my wife insane though

Meds weren't worth it for me. I made it 30 years until the diagnosis, then on Adderall for 5 years or so. Yes, I was super productive at times, but it also made me impulsive and increased risk-taking behavior. Also F'd up my sleep and essentially required sedatives to counteract.

You just have to find what you’re good at. I’ve never been diagnosed but I’m pretty sure I have it. I am fairly retarded and can’t really focus in most aspects of my life but I am laser focused and REALLY REALLY frickIN GOOD at what I do for a living. You wanna call that ADHD go ahead but it’s good for getting money and my wife and kids like money.

I have the ADHD but not the high IQ.
If I can find something I can really focus on it's like my intelligence increases 10x. When I'm not interested in something I feel like half of my brain power is used up keeping the other half on task.

Try Retardmaxxing. Not kidding. I have ADHD and its helped as much as anything with the frustration.

I have that shite. The only thing that I do is some cocaine when I have important meetings.
Just kidding. It is exhausting and frustrating.

Adderall is basically prescribed meth.

I don't know what this is, but I suspect it's what my 3 boys are doing most of the time.

I find Creatine and Nicotiene patches, help me tremendously.
But I still have issues.
But they help me tremendously.
Use to ride the A-Train in my younger years. But quit and been a struggle ever since.
Excerise, and a clean diet are essential in manging me.
I dont know why, but I hit some strides recently with this combination.
Hopefully I dont fall into another depressive spell and destroy the progress I ve made.
