Americans could be stuck paying more than $3 per gallon of gas until next year, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Sunday.

In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” Wright said that while gas prices have spiked amid the ongoing war in Iran, he’s unsure when prices will dip below $3 again.

“That could happen later this year. That might not happen until next year,
” Wright said. “But prices have likely peaked and they’ll start going down, certainly with a resolution of this conflict.”

Gas prices began rising after the start of U.S-Israel attacks, particularly after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. Normally, more than 20 million barrels of oil — or about one-fifth of the world’s supply — travel through the waterway.

The U.S. has imposed a blockade of the strait in an effort to pressure Iran into a peace deal, and Wright on Sunday acknowledged that it is not safe to travel through the strait at this time. Two commercial trade ships were struck by Iran’s military as they attempted to navigate the strait Saturday.

Wright on Sunday said that the U.S. has managed the crisis “fantastically.”

“Putting this 47-year conflict to an end and preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons, of course, has come with short-term disruption,” Wright said. “I think we’ve managed it fantastically, though. Here we are in the middle of the largest interruption in flow of energy ever, and gasoline prices peaked a week ago, about a dollar below the peak during the Biden administration.”

I like our current Energy Secretary way much more than the previous one.

Outside of not being a liberal, why? This guy is just pissing on everyone’s foot and telling them it’s raining.

With onshore storage being depleted all over the world there is zero case for sub $3 gas unless we enter a violent recession.

it's dropped down over here about $.40/gal.over here in the last few days, they always artificially manipulate gas prices anyway, but I'd rather pay more to keep those ragheads at bay and keep the nonsense over there

With a bit more honesty and self awareness, they are just one step away from realizing/acknowledging that the worldwide spike in gas prices during the Biden administration might not have been because of some amorphous “Biden hates oil” after all

not quite sure, but since we're playing 20 questions, why is it that if a hurricane is even projected on a track to enter the GoA gas prices immediately spike? nothing has been touched, the fuel that is already in the system is not in jeopardy, and if the hurricane never materializes or changes course, the prices still spike, media plays a part, but I can't say who "they" is, but it happens every time, like clockwork

That isn’t so much the case any longer with the emergence of shale oil.

F him, he sold the industry out. He makes bs comments like $50 oil works for everyone. He should be focusing on supporting O&G instead they have their foots on our necks- yet want all the votes.

In some places, it will be hard to get under 4 dollars because of local taxes and problems with refineries out west.

In Vegas, gas was anywhere from 4.34 a gallon at Sam’s to 5.29 at places near the airport.

will affect the 4th of July

We should tell the bluehairs that they can protest it by staying home during the 4th of July celebration, so the rest of us can enjoy it

4th of July

Anyone know of any local America 250 celebrations.

I know there is the usual 4th of July celebration on the river in NOLA, not sure if they are going to make more special for America 250. I think St. Charles Parish is hosting their own.
