Several years ago, I posted this short video about the Tigers' 68-70 seasons. The first sequence shows Casanova's skill as a running back.

Bert Jones really did have a cannon. May be the first time I actually watched a clip of him passing.

He is just as good a person as he was a football player. His picture was on the cover of SI as the 'best football player in the NCAA'. He only played in the NFL long enough to get his medical degree(Eye/Ear/Nose/Throat) from the University of Cincinnati and then he came back to Crowley to raise his family and work in his Dad's medical practice. At present, please send out prayers for him and his family as he needs them for his medical condition.

All those players highlighted were LSU HOF'ers. Andy Hamilton was my pastor for several years before he moved to China as a Missionary and ran an orphanage with his wife, Becky McKeithen, the former Governor's daughter. Andy was/is an amazing preacher. He nows lives in Thailand, I think, and sends zoom calls into China as he was removed from China a few years ago.
Casanova, along with George Bevan, were my all time favorite Tigers while I was at LSU, and yes Jones has a real rifle for an arm. Great memories.

Tommy Casanova was the original Russell Shepard, a player everyone wanted to see do something else offensively. Running back for Casanova and passing qb for Shepard.

What LSU fans back then really wanted to see was Jones at QB and stop the alternating of QB's every series. LSU fans also wanted LSU to stop punting on 3rd down deep in its own territory. Can you imagine if we did that today? Charlie Mac was hard to support at times.

Knew him from Crowley, he was a couple of years ahead of me. Met him later after he moved back there, was a genuinely nice guy. Thoughts for he and his family!

Nicknamed "The Ruston Rifle". He could throw the football 90 yards in the air.

True, but best known as a lockdown corner. He once made an interception with casts on both arms from an injury he sustained earlier in the year,

It's probably criminal how much he was held back due to the coaching philosophy of the time.

My love of LSU started with him. When college players were college athletes!

LSU has had 3 players who could have made a go out of any skill position: Casanova, Kevin Faulk and Mathieu.
